Does coffee have any positive or negative affects while you have the flu? coffee has diuretic properties, in other words it dehydrates you, not a good thing with the flu which also causes dehydration. When you have the flu, you need lots of hydration to help replenish cells and to push the flu out of your body. So many people with the flu end up in hospitals because of dehydration.
