I think my son has mono but flu test has shown up positive HELP ME?

My 13 yr old has been sick for 28 days now and has all the symptoms of mono but everytime they have done a flu test 3 times they say the flu test comess up postive can the flu test coem back positive and not have the flu and have mono

He does have influenza. Symptoms of mono and influenza are quite similar, so I can see why you might think it is mono.

You can feel comfortable with the lab results. If the mono test came up negative, you can still tell on a blood smear if someone has mono. So he doesn't have it, you can be sure.

Most lab kits that test for influenza have a 99%-100% sensitivity and specificity. The one I use is 100% sensitive. Trust the lab.

I have the flu right now, and I had mono previously. They check for flu with a swap, and mono by blood work. If he has the flu than he has the flu. Sometimes the flu can last for a long time up to 2 months. He just has to rest, fluids, and take meds. It sucks, I know im doing it now. But my doc told me its the only way to get better. Mono and the flu have a lot of alike symptoms so testing is the best way to get the right answer and if its come back three times I would trust the test.

He has the flu. It takes a while for the virus to leave the system especially when the body is fighting it off. Now, if his spleen enlarged? That is the sign of mono. If it is, then he has both. Flu can last up to 40 plus days.

for now belive the doctor he might be right and at this point im not quite sure about the flu test its possible he has both and have you asked the doctor about mono? if he has a version of the 'virus' epstien bar(i dont know about spelling:D) then they could be getting mixed up other than that i dont think so as i said before im not a doctor or even that old im in 8th grade! so a little bit :mono is a version of a type or group of viruses most people have had it and in there blood they have the antibodies the doctor can tel if he hasnt had epstien bar or if its active or if he has had it if he has had it before its like chicken pox he cant get it again
so ask the doctor about epstien bar antibodies
