My boyfriend might have the flu...will he be able to go to FL on sunday?

he just woke up today with the sumptoms of the flu, and yesterday he wasnt feeling right, but only had a sore throat.

how long does the flu last? his doesnt seem to terrible...what if he takes tamiflu or oscillimum?
will he be ok to travel from NJ to FL by car?

The better question is, does he feel like going?

If he just started the symptoms than you could have your doctor run a test (immunochromatographic assay) that will look for Influenza A & B immunoglobulins.

But since most of what we call the 'Flu' isn't actually infuenza it might not be worth the office visit. Most of the 'flu' that we suffer from lasts about 4-days. But can be just a quick daily duration.

Always remember that while you are symptomatic you are also contagious to others. So travel might not be in other people's best interest. You could be exposing people that have lower immune responces to a much more unpleasent experience.

EDIT to add (I have to add to Mr. Keels above : ) garlic does nothing for Rhinoviruses. It is a classic case of "Correlation does not imply causation" The human brain is hard-wired to make snap judgments and monumentally poor at distinguishing events that happen sequentially or correlatively from actually causative events.

Medicine seems to be a nexus for pseudoscience and the belief in magical cures.

Never take drugs unless you relay must. I suggest he chew raw garlic and get plenty of rest.

I was told by my doctor that if you take tamiflu within the first 48 hours after the first symptoms appear you will not have it as long.

take him to the drs's today
if it is the flu, get the tamiflu
it decresses the symptoms and the length of the illness
but he may have some other virus like a cold
usually the flu has a temp of 101.0 or higher
but only a dr can test for it
and let you know if he could make the trip
good luck

he going to feel like ****.
