Sunburn type rash and flu symptoms????

My son is 4 years old yesterday morning he woke up with a sore throat and very congested nose, last night a rash started to appear on the top part of his body, neck chest back etc, I have been giving him panadol as he has a fever and this morning have woken up to his entire body being covered by the rash but the small dots have joined together and now his skin looks like sunburn. I called health direct last night they said it was non emergency and to take him to the drs within 24 hours , Doctors are only open for a small part of this morning if I am even able to take him in if no appointments available might be of to hospital we go .
Question is what does this sound like to you??
I have googled and keep coming up with strep infections or scarlet fever.
Thankyou!!

I have an appointment in a hour he has a temp of 38 c and the rash did look like heat rash but has stayed constant just going from dots to a sunburn type rash

It does sound like Scarlet Fever to me. That can be very serious if not treated quickly. I would take him to the doctor as soon as possible.

Sounds like it could be Scarlet Fever. How high is his temperature?

if you have any thoughts its scarlet fever take him to the hospital, i had it when i was younger NOT FUN.. and can be deadly.

My 6 year old daughter just cought the flu with the same symptoms and the rash sounds like what she gets,a heat rash.Does it come and go and get bad.

it is very common for children to have a rash similar to this with strep. i work for a dr- see it a lot, some have a rash and no sore throat! let us know when you find out which it is....hope he's ok

You must be referring to slapped cheek disease, also known as fifth disease, or erythema infectiosum. It seems to have a lot of names for what is generally a fairly harmless viral infection causing rashes and mild flu like symptoms.

Its hallmark is a rash on the face that starts as bright red blotches and quickly combines to produce inflamed and angry looking cheeks. The cheeks and the flu-like malaise usually settle within a week. However, another rash, patterned rather like lace, can also form on the upper arms and legs. This seems to be a bit more persistent, fading in and out for a few weeks before it disappears altogether. Only very rarely is the infection associated with complications such as inflamed joints, problems in early pregnancy and relapses in those vulnerable to blood disorders.

It's a common and nearly always mild condition in childhood, with up to 30 per cent suffering no symptoms at all. The infective phase is over even before the slapped cheek appearance develops, so it's rather difficult to avoid in an epidemic. It's caused by Parvovirus B19. Of course, knowing the bug doesn't help much because, as with all viral infections, there is no specific treatment except lots of fluids, cool flannels and regular paracetamol in appropriate dose for comfort.

Im 28 and recently got over the flu. I now have a sunburn like rash all over except on my face. Did you find out the cause of it?
