Is 'flu' still about?

I live in Kent -my family has been hit by a virus giving rise to high temperatures and terrible cough,sore throat and malaise.Anyone any ideas as to what it might be?

In the County Durham area there is a gastric flu bug going around . The GP is still giving out flu vaccines , So I guess it will be a couple of months for the flu to cease . Then it will be summer colds.

-Tea with honey and lemon
-fluids(no citrus will irritate throat)
-pain reliever
-fever reducer
-cough drops
feel better. If you go to the doc within 48 hours of symptoms, you can get Tamiflu which will prevent it from spreading, and speed up recovery Edit: oh yeah the flu will be around for another month or two.
