If you go to the doctor with the flu, what will he give you/do?

I'm just curious in all aspects of health, and am curious what things a doctor can give you to help with the flu?
Anyone know what is standard, or could tell me what they were given from personal experience?

they will prescribe rest and pain killers when needed, but if you really hac d flu you wouldn't be able to get to the surgery you would feel too ill

They would ask you for your symptoms to differentiate it from the common cold. They also have a flu test (it's not very pleasant) where they take a specimen swab from your nostril. It its positive, and depending on your age, health and other medical conditions, your doctor may prescribe Tami flu, which shortens the duration of the flu by up to 4 days. He or she may recommend that you take ibuprofen for any pain.

He/she will probably give you a script for painkillers and suggest some bed rest. If you're super dehydrated, because of losing it from both ends *ahem*...and cannot hold down liquids, they may also order an IV done on you to replace what you've lost (this may or may not be done in the doctor's office..you may be sent to the ER for that..depends on the doctor.) What you WONT get is antibiotics, because they're..for all intents and purposes, useless against viruses (which is what the flu is).
