Mucus coming out of eye, and the flu...?

My sister has had a pretty bad cold for the past 3 days now. Shes gotten high fevers. Last night she was blowing her nose and as she was doing that mucus started running out of her right eye. It just kept coming out all night. She woke up this morning and she could barely open her eye. In the morning she finally got some mucus out of her nose and it was all chunky, bloody and green.
Heres the best part I think, she went to a walk in clinic and the doctor asked if she has been sneezing and she said shes only sneezed about once through this whole time...and immediately he said it was allergies......yeah...okay.
So, I was wondering if anyone may have any better answers than that, and any suggestions on what she should do.

Thank you!

She's never had allergies, and she's 36 so, she doesnt think its that.

She has fever due to the green gunk! She has an infection if there's a fever AND green!!! But yeah It could have all been brought about by allergy. The tear ducts and the sinuses and the ears, nose and throat are all connected by canals of a sort. It sounds like a really bad sinus infection. I would try that veryamist nasal spray that kristyn3 mentioned, but the doctor should really have prescribed it that would be safer! AND AN ANTIBIOTIC! Maybe next time I would go in with her!! Make an appointment; instead of the walk in clinic too! Keep her eyes clean , AND HER HANDS FREE FROM HER EYES! Also, the most common transmitter of a cold is the hands........Keep hands washed! The whole family!!

does she have the pink eye? it might be that or it might just be allergies. a suggestion would be to ask another doctor for a second opinion :) hope she gets better ~! :)

My son has terrible allergies, and his eyes do that exact thing. You don't normally run a fever with allergies. She could have allergies primarily, and due to all of the extra mucus//congestion she could have developed a secondary infection, sinus/ear infection... Did he give her antibiotics? Spring allergies are just coming out and they are bad, if she does end up having them, veryamist nasal spray is the only reason my son can even go outside. It works wonders. His eyes were stuck shut every morning until we started on this med.
