How did you deal with your stomach flu?

I'm now on the downhill slope with the stomach flu, I know thats not its correct name and I can't remember the correct medical term. I quit vomiting about three hours ago. My stomach is still raw but I'm feeling better.

What sucks the worst about the stomach flu, along with food poisoning (which I had THREE TIMES) is there nothing you can really do besides liquids, soups, etc is to just wait it out. I hate that feeling of being sick and you can't do nothing about it. This is horrible and I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

If anyone of you have it right now I feel for you and how are dealing with yours?

I have had the stomach flu once in 8th grade about 13 years ago(got to miss school by doctors orders of course..lol..), and again about one or two years ago, and all I can say is I know the feeling. It really does suck only being on liquids, soups and that sort of thing. I got the cravings for meat when I had it, but then sometimes when I saw others eating it around me it made my stomach cringe or made me want to vomit again. Even certain smells made me vomit or want to. I believe mine lasted about two weeks both times

I'm a person who goes 4 and 5 years without being sick at all, not even the common cold sick, even though I'll be around sickly folks. So yea I have a real good immune system, especially since I work out/exercise a lot and all that good stuff, but I got the stomach flu those times and it sucked big time. You just feel so helpless, especially when you're at the stage you are where the vomitign stops for a long while. It's one of those things where there is nothing we can do but wait it out, and do as the doctor would say which is drink lot's of liquids, soups and that sort fo stuff.

Yes, there is no 'stomach' flu - flu, by definition, is a lung problem - most always a virus given to us by birds (as in bird flu).

If you can keep something in your stomach try burned toast and tea - that was the old remedy. The burned toast has charcoal on it which sore stomachs often like.

Also if you can get to the vitamin store they often sell "bitters" - stuff made form the seeds of grapefruit. You take a few drops in a glass of water and that sure smooths out a stomach.

Good luck with that.

I don't have it but have been there and feel for you. mine got so bad oce that i ended up in the hospital on IV treatment. One thing that helped me was some fresh air and sunshine. Going out for a walk(about 5minutes). Aside that slowly reintroduce food and keep up the liquid intake. you'll get there. Rest really helps
