Have you had the flu this year? How long did your cough last? |
I'm going on 5 weeks now with the cough. I've already done the antiboctics. Any good natural remedies that might finish this cough that goes with the flu? Most likely it was not the flu but some other viral illness, giving you a tracheitis or bronchitis ( inflammation of the trachea or bronchi). If you smoke, the cough is going to last longer because your bronchi ( the pipes in your lungs) are already affected. The same holds true if you have asthma. In general these infections last in average 3 weeks but they can last up to 6. Addenovirus is a common cause and there have been some more agressive strains around lately. No antibiotics, please. Just chicken soup, plenty of fluids, rest and hand washing. It should strat getting better by now. If you have it for 1 more week, go to your doctor so he or she can order a chest Xray to make sure is nothing else. Nope, knock on wood. I had the flu shot in late October.. There is not much that you can do. I didn't get the flu - never have even had the shot. But I agree with the others on washing your hands, keeping a santizing pump at your desk, of course cover your mouth when coughing (then use your sanitzer), and just drink plenty of fluids, lots of rest and vitamins - but if you are a smoker, you will of course have it longer than a non smoker. I am just finally starting to recover after about 7 weeks . I coughed so hard I would throw up and I even hurt a rib in my back . This was a horrible virus.I started off with nausea, headache, body aches, etc. The normal flu-type symptons. After a few days of that I thought I was getting better but if I did much at all, I was wiped out! Then it came back with headache sore throat etc and just kept evolving to this cough that was so bad . I am just finally able to sleep w/out coughing all night. The only things I found that helped was honey and lemon (it really soothed my throat and the only natural remedy I tried other than steam) and theraflu helped some. I also put a pot of water on the stove and breathed the steam. It got to the point that I felt like it was so tight I couldn't breathe and the bottoms of my lungs were so itchy but I couldn,t cough hard enough or deep enough and nothing was coming up I took cough medicine with an expectorant to loosen up that crap. That helped alot actually. And the thing that got me thru the days I HAD to be up and functioning? Theres nothing like the miracle of DAYQUIL . It's a miracle product in my opinion!! Try it, you won't regret it. Just make sure you take the next dose before the four hours are up ! Of course codeine is one of the most effective cough cures but I know where I live it seems doctors are very reluctant to prescribe it! GOOD LUCK and I hope this helps and you feel better soon. oh and drink LOTS of water cuz this virus seems to really cause dehydration and then that stuff in your lungs gets really thick and is harder to loosen. |
