My son is 15 months old, he's been sick with stomach flu, i believe, for almost 4 days now..help?

He vomited Wednesday morning, several times, we made sure he had liquids and that afternoon he seemed to be feeling much better, but then the next day the diarrheah set in and has not fully stopped. He has so little energy. I've called the doctor and they say to keep himhydrated, well how much exactly is enough? HOW DO i KNOW MY SON WILL BE OK?

ok so now he's takie a tsp od pedalite every 5 mins and eating a bit. he seems to have more energy but still weak. i think he'll be ok, though, as a parent, you always worry

I would get him to a doctor asap. Make sure you are giving him Pedialite water. Grocery stores, drug stores, etc. carry it. Water is good but he is losing electrolytes which is dangerous, and the Pedialite will replace those. Just keep giving him this as much as possible, with an eye dropper if you have to. It's unusual for this to go on this long so he needs to be seem. You can give hime teaspoons of broth and jello, but stay away from solid foods. I hope he is better fast, best of luck to you.

Yeah doctors will tell you that because they think they know everything. However, parents always know when their baby is not okay.
If you are keeping him hydrated, and its still not working, then he may need to go to the hospital for IV. What are you giving him? He should be having pedialyte. No juice, because juice makes diarrhea worse.
If he is lethargic (very tired--wont wake up, and floppy) then he needs to go to the ER ASAP. Remember though illness can make a person tired, but if it is not normal and he is extremely weak, take him in. The cannot do anything really for the stomach flu, except IV, but that may be just what he needs.

If you still are frightened, then take him in anyway. Its better to look stupid at the hospital, then have a dead baby.

Good luck

I hate to say this, but Doctors sometimes seem to underplay things. If after four days, he's not improving yet, I would go to the ER or his physician. Tell them you want them to give him fluids. That way, you'll be assured that he's not dehydrated. I would also recommend that you request they do some tests for bacterial stomach infections because if he has one of those, he will need antibiotics. Just be firm with them.

You should take your son to the doctors 15 days is too long for him to be suffering. If your doctor is unco-operative take him to the nearest walk in Centre. I am assuming that you are in the UK I do hope he will be better soon. Do get some professional help.

take him to the ER
