Is there such a thing as complete immunity to the flu? I've only had it once, as a child, and never since.

No such thing as complete immunity.

The flu is caused by an influenza virus (as opposed to a rhinovirus that causes the common cold, etc).

Influenza viruses are well known to undergo mutations. These mutations allow the virus to change slightly, fool immune systems that may have recognized them in the past and contine to propogate. Its an evolutionary mechanism for survival.

You may just not have encountered the right flu virus at the right time...if so, good for you!
I've had 3 confirmed cases in my life including the Hong Kong flu in 1968...that was a bad one.

You cannot get the flu from the flu shot. The viral particles are not a full viral genetic code, so its impossible to get a case of the flu from the shot.
It can make you feel a little sick or have pain at the injection site for a couple of days, but its not the flu.

No, you can't be completely immune to the flu. The influenza virus can be prevented by vacinations. Do you get vacinated regularlly? Maybe that's why you don't get it. Also, you could have a strong immune system. You can build a strong immune system by eating right. I've only had the flu twice.

I am the same way. I only had the flu once when I actually got the flu shot. I haven't had it since or even before the shot.
