Flu Question! Will Give Best Answer!?

Hi, I was wondering something. Ok, my dad is sick with the flu, like puking ect. And he used one of my favorite blankets yesterday morning, becasuse he stayed home from work. I was wondering how long the flu germ will stay on my blanket. It is a down comforter and can only be washed at a professional laundramat. I cannot risk getting sick, I have something going on this weekend. When will my blanket be germ free? How many hrs? Please help.... I miss my blanket! I just diddnt want to say NO! YOU CANT USE MY BLANKET GET YOUR OWN! Im not that kind of person! Thanks! I will give best answer!

If your dad is throwing up he likely has an intestinal virus, not the flu. Flu is short for "influenza" and is an upper respiratory illness characterized by headache, achiness, fever, sore throat, cough, chills. The virus doesn't live long outside the human body, so the bugs won't live long on the blanket. You may very well get sick, however, because the virus can be contracted through the air, anything your dad and you both touched if no one washed hands before, say, putting something in your mouth, etc. Door knobs, toilet seats, faucets, drawers, anything multiple people touch throughout the day and which don't usually get washed/bleached. Intestinal viruses are extremely contagious and usually if someone in the family gets one, others will too. Though some people seem to be naturally immune to them; my 14 year old and my husband NEVER get intestinal bugs when others in our family do. Also, people are usually contagious before symptoms appear.

Try hanging your blanket out in the sun, as sunlight is a natural bactericide and will probably kill off the virus, too. I'd suggest tumbling in the dryer, as the heat will probably help, but don't know how that will affect the down.

Just throw it in the dryer for 10 mins and the heat should kill any germs on it and spray some lysol on it maybe. You can catch the flu btw on surfaces people have sneezed or coughed on. That is why you should cover your mouth when you cough and wash your hands often so you dont spread your cold.

I would probably spray it with Lysol disinfectant spray. It's supposed to kill 99.9% of germs. Maybe after that air it out, or throw it in the dryer-the heat might kill off some of the bacteria. I would wait an hour after doing all that before using it again.

just use without thinking what will happen after

don't worry nothing will happen just use it like always and you will never get flu

but but but if you worry about it then even you don;t use it you get flu

so never think what will happen after just do it

I'm not sure how long the germs will stay around for but you could just spray it with febreeze, the kind that kills germs, this will obviously kill the germs as well as give it a nice fresh scent

spray your blanket good with one of those new sprays that gets rid of germs and bacteria. That should do it, then go have a happy weekend.

ask him for the money to take it to get professionally cleaned...and ask him the next time to use his own blankey! Tell your mom to tell him!

Have you maybe checked out a Lysol solution?.
That may kill 99% of the germs anyway.

after it gets washed dont worry unless he uses it again

<3 blankets. If it will be professionally cleaned, I would THINK it would get rid of the germs.

Wash it in Hot Water and use Tide. Good as new:)

Not sure, but you could spray it down with some lysol...that's what I usually do.

ive never heard of catching the flu from using a blanket from someone who has it, the only way of catching the flu from your dad is through molcules your dad sneezes out when next to him, this is how flu travels, just like the common cold, they rest in the nasel cavity and when you sneeze, they are able to escape and spread to other suitable people, i highly doubt you have anything to worry about using your blanket, just dont stand to close to him when coughing and sneezing starts!
thats when u need to worry about catching it
