C-diff vs. the flu...?

ive been having the classic symptoms for about a week, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, tired, achy- i saw my dr. today and she thinks its a viral infection and said to rest but also wants me to drop off a stool sample for c-diff., the most recently antibiotics i took were before my dentist appt two weeks ago, 2,000mg of amoxicillin for my mitral valve prolapse.... whatre the odds that this gave me c-diff?

Probably NOT C-diff with only a 2 gm. dose of Amoxil. Now....if you were taking a LONG TERM regimen of antibiotics, and some that were more likely to cause C-diff. (Like Cleocin -- however just about ANY antibiotic can cause this), then it would be more supportable.

I've been seeing a slight rise in the number of patients with viral gastroenteritis, so I'm betting on that. The drug-of-choice to treat this is Pepto Bismol. I typically suggest the liquid over the pills; taking a dose every 3-4 hours while awake for 2 days. Push a LOT of water and a bit of Gatorade here and there. Stay away from milk products and concentrated juices/sugared drinks and sodas.
