Why is flu around in winter and not other times of the year? and...?

has it always been this way or is it a relatively new development in diseases?

lower air density due to cooler climate means the nasty bugs flow more freely through the air, spreading around more.

Heard a doctor in FLORIDA couple of years back explain that it's because in colder places people tend to spend more time inside home, buildings, etc., and thus transmit the bug more so. But if this were the case, how come people in FLORIDA also get the flu during winter months, whcih are cool at most???

I personally think it is just a bacteria which passess from hand to hand because people don't wash their hands as they should (it's been proven!!). And don't cover mouth or nose when sneezing or coughing!

The viruses that cause the flu are ALWAYS present. The reason they are more common in the winter is that individuals tend to congregate indoors with other people. Consequently, the virus spreads more rapidly.

very simple. the virus likes cold, it grows in a cold and damp environment. and also we are more vulnerable in winter because we don't have enough vitamins from fruit and our body focuses on keeping us warm
