It is entirely possible that he does have the flu. 5000mg of acetaminophen in one day is enough to cause physiological stress. Viruses usually infect people and lay dormant in DNA until the body experiences physiological stress. So, cold stress can cause the virus to exit the DNA and start replicating, resulting in a cold (such as playing too long in the snow or rain).

The liver damage (physiological stress) that resulted from taking that much Tylenol was likely enough to cause the flu.

first of all, is your friend suicidal? if so, please do not take this lightly. a lot of people try to harm themselves to get attention and end up dying. is your friend depressed? or was your friend in physical pain? emotional pain can be just as bad and just as difficult to treat. if no one knows but you and him than please tell someone you can trust what he has done! he may get mad and may not talk to you for a while but his life is worth him getting mad at you. again, do you know the reason why he took so much Tylenol? if it is due to depression please get him some help asap!

Did he take it all at once or through out the day?

If he took it all at once, that could have been enough to cause damage to his organs.

It is too late to pump his stomach. SO he should go to the ER and be checked out. They will probably do some blood tests to check his liver and kidney functions.

He took 10 at the same time???

I'm surprised he hasn't died yet. Taking more Tylenol than is recommended will cause liver damage. He could very well be feeling ill due to the over dose.

He should call his doctor and talk to him.

Yes, he is going to die. No question about it. He should put his affairs in order.

Its not safe to take over 4000 mg of tylenol in a 24 hr period. So if he took 5000 mg I dont think he will die from it, but may make him feel sick to his stomach. Hope this helps,

I suggest he see a Dr, since he may have damaged his liver.

why, just why did he do it?
