Can one get both flu shot and nasal spray flu vaccine at the same time?

Can one get both flu shot and nasal spray flu vaccine at the same time?

why would you want to do that? not being a smart tail, just wondering. did you know that when you get the flu vaccine that are putting a little of the live virus in your body? why would you want a double dose?

And to correct sparcha (or whatever) there are some that do have live vaccines in them as noted below. I have been a nurse for 17 years, I learn something new everyday and I sure don't know it all but I wouldn't correct another nurse unless I did my homework. Thats okay though we all make mistakes.

Again to answer the question, I just don't like the thought of putting a little of the live vaccine inside my system. That is why they won't give you the flu shot if you are sick with a cold or running a tempt. Hope that clears EVERYTHING up.

Yes, but why would you? Getting a double dose won't make you "more" immune.

Correcting the previous answerer, vaccines use inactivated, or dead, viruses. Vaccines contain no live viruses.

Well since the Center for Disease control says there is such thing as a live virus in the vaccine then I would have to agree with Tulla and say that I would just get one of them.

INFLUENZAVACCINE LIVE, INTRANASAL
This information is from the Center for Disease Control's web site. It is about the live virus that is in some flu vaccines. I just wanted the ER nurse to get updated on the live virus in case I ever vist his or her ER:

1 Why get vaccinated?
2 Live, attenuated influenza
vaccine (nasal spray)
Influenza (鈥渇lu鈥? is a contagious disease.
It is caused by the influenza virus, which spreads from
infected persons to the nose or throat of others.
Other illnesses can have the same symptoms and are
often mistaken for influenza. But only an illness
caused by the influenza virus is really influenza.
Anyone can get influenza, but rates of infection are
highest among children. For most people, it lasts only a
few days. It can cause:
路 fever 路 sore throat 路 chills 路 fatigue
路 cough 路 headache 路 muscle aches
Some people get much sicker. Influenza can lead to
pneumonia and can be dangerous for people with heart
or breathing conditions. It can cause high fever and
seizures in children. On average, 226,000 people are
hospitalized every year because of influenza and 36,000
die 鈥?mostly elderly.
Influenza vaccine can prevent influenza.
Live, intranasal influenza vaccine is approved for
healthy people from 2 through 49 years of age, who
are not pregnant. This includes people who can spread
influenza to others at high risk, such as:
鈥ousehold contacts and out-of-home caregivers of
children from birth up to 5 years of age.
鈥hysicians and nurses, and family members or any
one else in close contact with people at risk of
serious influenza.
Influenza vaccine should be given to anyone who wants
to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with influenza
or spreading influenza to others.
LAIV may be considered for:
鈥eople who provide essential community services.
鈥eople living in dormitories or under other crowded
conditions, to prevent outbreaks.
3 Who can get LAIV?
4 Some people should not get LAIV
LAIV is not licensed for everyone. The following
people should check with their provider. They may be
advised to get the inactivated vaccine (flu shot).
鈥?Adults 50 years of age and older or children 6 months
up to 2 years of age. (Children younger than 6 months
cannot get either influenza vaccine.)
鈥?Children younger than 5 with recurrent wheezing.
鈥?People who have long-term health problems with:
- heart disease - kidney disease
- lung disease - metabolic disease, such as diabetes
- asthma - anemia, and other blood disorders
鈥?Anyone with a weakened immune system.
鈥?Children or adolescents on long-term aspirin treatment.
鈥?Pregnant women.
鈥?Anyone with a history of Guillain-Barr茅 syndrome
(a severe paralytic illness, also called GBS).
Inactivated influenza vaccine is the preferred vaccine
for people (including health-care workers, and family
members) coming in close contact with anyone who
has a severely weakened immune system (that is,
anyone who requires care in a protected environment).
There are two types of influenza vaccine:
Live, attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) contains live
but attenuated (weakened) influenza virus. It is sprayed
into the nostrils rather than injected into the muscle.
Inactivated influenza vaccine, sometimes called the
鈥渇lu shot,鈥?is given by injection. This vaccine is described
in a separate Vaccine Information Statement.
For most people influenza vaccine prevents serious
influenza-related illness. But it will not prevent
鈥渋nfluenza-like鈥?illnesses caused by other viruses.
Influenza viruses are always changing. Because of this,
influenza vaccines are updated every year, and an annual
vaccination is recommended. Protection lasts up to a
year.
It takes up to 2 weeks for protection to develop after
vaccination.
LAIV does not contain thimerosal or other preservatives.
