I got the FLU!! about four days ago plz help me?

I have the flu and havent gone to the doctor yet....I feel really sweaty and I have a bitt of a fever... what can i use or do at home to treat it???

If it is the respiratory type I have found the best thing is hot lemon water with a little sugar and tylenol -- it helps you rest and sleep and relaxes you too.

The safe answer is to go to the doctor as soon as you can.
What has helped me the most when I've been stuck at home with flu like symptoms is to try to sleep through it so you don't suffer from the symptoms so much. Ibuprofen helps me sleep and also lessons the pain of the symptoms. I also tend to feel cold and often will put on as many clothes and blankets as I can and try to stay as warm as possible. I try to stay warm and stay in bed.

I am going to be honest with you, there is no cure for the flu. Your doctor would not give any medication for the flu but he may give you meds to treat the symptoms. So save yourself the money and co-pay for the visit and scripts and buy some Tylenol and Motrin and alternate them every two-three hours to treat the fever and lethargy you may have. You can also get Theraflu which seems to give some temporary relief as well. Drink plenty or fluids and eat small meals. Also get rest.

Please go to the doctor as soon as possible - The flu is VERY VERY VERY uncommon in the summer. I had flu-like symptoms earlier in the year (end of May) - I felt like I had been hit by a train. I went to the doctor to get tamiflu. It is supposed to make the flu half as bad and half as long.

Well, my doctor told me she didn't think I had the flu because it is so uncommon at this time of the year. Naturally, the flu tests came back negative but they treated me for tick-bourne illnesses like lyme disease and I was ok in a day or so. Many times the flu seems to be what you have and what you actually have is a bit more serious...

But if it is lyme disease or one of the other tick things it is typically much more serious than the flu...(don't mean to scare you but if you see your doctor and it is one of those things the sooner the better).

Hope this helps a little!

drink plenty of fluids, take a couple aspirin if you can hold them down, it helps reduce the fever. If you have suppositories that sometimes helps too. get plenty of sleep.
