NO! It is a common misconception that the flu vaccine can cause you or others to actually acquire the virus. Even if the vaccine is "live", it is attenuated to the point where it can no longer effect humans. This misconception came about, because obviously people don't get the flu shot until flu season has already begun. It takes approximately two weeks for the body to build up immunity to the virus after you receive the vaccination. If you contract the virus in that time window than you are still susceptible to it. Also flu vaccinations are not an exact science. The strands of virus used in the vaccination is a prediction of what that years flu virus will be. Viruses have the ability over time to become resistant to our immune systems defense. As the virus evolves so do our vaccinations against it, but sometimes the virus is one step ahead I guess you could say. There were many cases last year where this happened. I hope this helped :)

Nope. The live flu vaccine is a "live attenuated vaccine". This means that the vaccine contains live micro-organisms that have been cultivated under conditions that disable their virulent properties. Basically they cannot infect a person or else your husband would also get the full blown flu. The body is still able to identify and develop the antibodies against the flu so that if he were to come into contact, they would be prepared to fight it off. But the live flu is not enough to infect a person.. let alone another person they live with.

I'm assuming by live flu you meant the mist. However if you didn't and you meant the shot then you still don't have anything to worry about. The shot only contains killed microorganisms and cannot cause the flu virus.

the flu shot is a synthetic version. you and the kids will get sicker by breather the germs that fly out of stranger's mouths in the grocery store and by touching door knobs. get the entire family vaccinated and wash your hands more often.
