Is it possible that only Hispanics (Mexicans) are effected most severely by the Swine Flu?

Is it possible to have a racial divide between the effects of the Swine Flu? Last time I checked before typing this about 150 people have died from the Swine Flu, all so far in Mexico. Can there be a racial disparity between the severity of the disease?

I really doubt that, I expect that the reason why the people in Mexico have died is due to A.The health care in Mexico is not as good as the other countries swine flu has been found in and B. The virus spread around and response time to the virus in Mexico was very slow. Also pandemic influenza viruses have been known to vary in severity in the past.

I am not sure if this is possible, but think. When the Europeans arrived in North America, they brought diseases that the Native North and South Americans did not have resistance to. However, I do not think that this is the case. What people have to understand is that the disease broke out in Mexico City. Mexico city is the most populated city in the world. There are over 8.8 million people who live there. When you think about how long the flu has been there - about 2-3 weeks - and the number of those infected and the number who have died, it is not as bad as it may seem. It will probably burn itself out in about 2 weeks.

The bad thing is that the virus could mutate or other types of infection will pop up while the victims are sick. This sometimes happens with viral pneumonia. Some cases of viral pneumonia turn into bacterial pneumonia.

The good thing is that it is getting close to the end of traditional flu season and kids only have about a month of school left.

No, it is not possible. The issue is not racial, but geographical. The ones who died lived in Mexico City, the most polluted city on earth. Every single day, with no flu.. just a normal day, 19 people die in Mexico City due to respiratory collapse. The air in Mexico City is so bad that by US standards, it is only safe to breathe about 30 days out of the year. Multiply that by the fact that human solid waste gets dumped on the streets.. it is desperately poor in some areas, with tin shacks and no doctors and running water, and you know the reason. If you were white or black or Asian and had to live in those conditions, your likelihood of dying would be much higher too.

Possibely because I am mexican and have visited their many times they are careless about every thing they just chop a pigs head off like nothing and also the U.S. is far more advanced in technology and it is smarter and I think mexicans eat alot more pig like chorizo so yes maybe I hope they find a cure for it quick.

Possibly but i think it is mostly because of the healthcare in mexico. Also a good bunch of people in Mexico do not have very good immune systems and really any sickness can kill them.
And a quick example of some "diseases" (not really at all) that affect certain races more. Believe it or not, Lactose Intolerance affects more Asians than caucasians. Just a little fact there to sorta back up my case!

No. It's just that in Mexico there (not trying to be offensive) is not as much hygiene and advanced health care so there is a higher chance of the people of Mexico to get sick than in America. Also if you notice the same thing happened in a similar country with the bird flu, China.

It isn't a racial thing, it is just that the swine flu is mainly in Mexico right now and mainly everyone there is hispanic. About 20 people in the US have gotten it, it is just a matter of it spreading so other people get it.

Well, since hispanics in Mexico have poor healthcare, and white Americans do not I guess you could say that race is technically an affect. I guess?...

Its not racial, its because of their health/living conditions
race has nothing to do with it.

no, someone has it in lorain ohio, but i wouldnt be scared about it, just yet.

No. The virus may still become fatal in places other than Mexico.

No.

No
