Does anybody else think the swine flu is being hyped just to create a panic so the pharmaceutical companies?

can sell millions of doses of vaccine. They already did it this year with the regular flu vaccine but they didn't make enough so they need to get on the bandwagon again with the swine flu.

pharmaceutical companies arent greedy? HA! ok...back to reality...I dont think it's gone that far, since there is no vaccine, but there is tamiflu and relenza which our govt is now purchasing from the pharm companies. I think it's more of a political ploy. On the congressional website the headline reads something like " Federal funds sought to help with flu pandemic". I just bet they are...

Marcos girl, only 200 people died from avian flu.

Here's what I think. I think that they don't know exactly how to handle it, which in turn makes society panic. When we are faced with the unknown, it is a very normal reaction. I have said this so many times, and I don't mind say it, but approx 36,000 people in the USA die from influenza every year. We don't see people going all nuts from that. Swine flu is a contagious virus, and what makes it scary is it kills healthy middle aged people, not just the old and young. It has nothing to do with greed from the companies, but more so the population getting carried away. Sometimes we can't control things. We can try our best by keeping our hands washed and not going out as much, but that's it.

i kinda do think its a hype. i asked my mom and dad, whom are both doctors, and i asked them about the common flu vs. the swine flu statistics. their answer in short was pretty much that its a hype.

i do think its good that attention is being focused on the situation before it escalates, but the media does have a way with making things appear to be bigger than they are to get a reaction out of the people, or to cover up something else going on in the world

remember the clinton scandal? you couldnt turn on a t.v. without seeing it, while the conflicts we were having in the middle east were taking a back seat.

my favorite was the scott and lacey petersen case, and how much that was exploited. i know its a terrible thing that happened, but its not like that was the only time that a guy ever did something like that, or worse, to his wife and kid, yet it was all over the place at the time.

this is the way i look at it: the media isnt your front row seat to whats going on in the world, they are merely just story tellers who can manipulate a story to alter the publics reaction. whenever you see any kinda story thats hyped up like this, try to pay attention to whats going on in the background, the stories they arent paying so much attention to.

haha, sorry i kinda ranted. to answer your question, i seriously would not be surprised if it was some kinda ruse from the pharmaceutical industry to increase business. it also makes you think about what kind of profits could be made off of other "uncurable" diseases

There is no need to make a vaccine for this flu since it responds to readily available medicines. The real scare will be in the third world where they do not have proper care or any medicine. It has about a 2% mortality rate without treatment and probably about 10 million people or more will get it. So I think we are looking at about 200,000 deaths worldwide. It's in Israel now and if is not contained there it could hit Cairo which is another city with over 10 million people.

sounds logical but i think it is a virus that was made in a lab by the terrorists and instead of trying to get it into the US they brought it to mexico because anyone can go there and then all the illegals crossing th border will bring it to america....so in essence they are using our unsecure borders against us.....DOWN WITH OBAMA

No, this is how deadly pandemics start (see flu pandemic 1918, that came from birds then pigs, then infected humans). People are right to be worried and taking action to lower the chance of 10's of millions of people dying.

Uh, no. This is a serious threat, and as far as medication goes, there's not really a vaccine that will prevent swine flu. Pharmaceutical companies are not that greedy.

No, it is not hype. This could be a real threat to us all, however, it could also die off like the Avian flu did a few years ago. Let's hope for the best.

I think it's something bigger than pharmaceuticals trying to make more money from people...

No.

nop, is just another sign that the world is ending

i don't think so. they don't joke about things that could lead to a pandemic :)
