How many of you are really afraid of the H1N1 (swine) flu?

Just wondering if people (other than the news) are really worried about this "pandemic" .

Just wanted to let you know that I am not worried, my god is bigger then death, but I have family members whom don't have the same faith and that are wearing masks and not going out in public.

I'm not worried @ all! I mean people-be serious! This isn't at all like the Yellow Fever Outbreak in Europe, years ago! This is just a different type of flu! According to the cdc website, only 149 people have this disease in the US so far. Just think about the millions of people in the US. 149 is barely a fraction of the population. PEOPLE JUST NEED TO CALM DOWN!

Not afriad at all. You'll eventually die one day. I mean, if the higher powers want you dead, you can even collapse doing nothing at home. It's the inconvenience this pandemic brought that sucks big time. Overseas trip cancelled and etc. Report Abuse

Not me, but i'm in the fire service and everything like this goes to a code 6. That's when the states will start handing out drugs to everyone just to make sure it's not gonna spread, that's when people will really start freaking out because they will think since the government is giving away the "antidote" for free, there really is a problem. But don't worry you can fight swine flu the same ways as regular flu. But right now we are at code 5, so look for code six in the next few weeks.

P.S. - Don't freak out though, it will be fine, it's not the black plague.

What the CDC and Health Department knows is so different from what we are hearing in the media.

The virus is infectious for about 2 days prior to symptom onset. The virus sheds more than 7 days after symptom onset (possibly as long as 9 days). This is unusual.

Since it is such a novel (new) virus, there is no "herd immunity," so the
"attack rate" is very high. This is the percentage of people who come down with a virus if exposed. Almost everyone who is exposed to this virus will become infected, though not all will be symptomatic. That is much higher than seasonal flu, which averages 10-15%. The "clinical attack rate" may be around 40-50%. This is the number of people who show symptoms. This is a huge number. It is hard to convey the seriousness of this.

- The virulence (deadliness) of this virus is as bad here as in Mexico, and there are folks on ventilators here in the US, right now. This has not been in the media, but a 23 month old near here is fighting for his life, and a pregnant woman just south of San Antonio is fighting for her life. In Mexico, these folks might have died already, but here in the US, folks are getting Tamiflu or Relenza quickly, and we have ready access to ventilators. What this means is that within a couple of weeks, regional hospitals will likely become overwhelmed.

There are 10-25 times more actual cases (not "possible" cases -- actual), than what is being reported in the media. The way they fudge on reporting this is that it takes 3 days to get the confirmatory nod from the CDC on a given viral culture, but based on epidemiological grounds, there are more than 10 cases for each "confirmed" case
right now.

During the night, we crossed the threshold for the definition of a
WHO, Phase 6 global pandemic. This has not happened in any of our lifetimes so far. We are in uncharted territory.

President Obama will declare an emergency sometime in the next 72-96 hours.

It appears that this flu produces a distinctive "hoarseness" in many victims. The symptoms, in general, match other flu's; namely, sore throat, body aches, headache, cough, and fever. Some have all these symptoms, while others may have only one or two.

I'm more afraid of the Pharma Terrorists that in all likelihood created this. What's next up in their play book?

If you really want the truth about H1N1 commonly known as the swine flu then read this article that strongly implicated Baxter International with this latest epidemic.

"The OMFG moment of the century: Illinois-based Baxter working on vaccine to 鈥檚top鈥?swine flu outbreak in Mexico 25 Apr 2009 Specialty drug maker Baxter International Inc. will work with the World Health Organization to develop a vaccine that could stem [foment] an outbreak of a deadly swine flu strain in Mexico. Baxter spokesman Christopher Bona said Saturday that the Deerfield, Ill.-based company has asked the WHO for a sample of the flu strain. He says Baxter has patented technology that allows the company to develop vaccines in half the time it usually takes 鈥?about 13 weeks instead of 26. [Is Baxter International taking a page from the Blackwater playbook? Just as Blackwater/Xe keep on killing to justify their multi-billion dollar contracts to provide 'security' in Iraq and Afghanistan, Baxter International is poised to make *billions* to vaccinate people against their pandemic.]

Are you ready? Wait for it鈥?br>
Virus mix-up by lab could have resulted in pandemic [Uh, it apparently *did.*]

06 Mar 2009 It鈥檚 emerged that virulent H5N1 bird flu was sent out by accident from an Austrian lab [the Austrian branch of US vaccine company, Baxter] last year and given to ferrets in the Czech Republic before anyone realised. As well as the risk of it escaping into the wild, the H5N1 got mixed with a human strain, which might have spawned a hybrid that could unleash a pandemic.

鈥楾his was infected with a bird flu virus.鈥?Viral Pandemic H5N1 flu threat: Illinois-based Baxter contaminates European labs by error 25 Feb 2009 According to the scientific network PROMED, Baxter International Inc. in Austria 鈥渦nintentionally contaminated samples with the bird flu virus that were used in laboratories in 3 neighboring countries, raising concern about the potential spread of the deadly disease鈥? As PROMED reports, the contamination has been discovered when ferrets at a laboratory in the Czech Republic died after being inoculated with vaccine made from the samples early this month. 鈥淭he material came from Deerfield, Illinois-based Baxter, which reported the incident to the Austrian Ministry of Health, Sigrid Rosenberger, a ministry spokeswoman, said today in a telephone interview鈥? the network-alert-system is quoting. 鈥淭his was infected with a bird flu virus,鈥?Rosenberger said. 鈥淭here were some people from the company who handled it.鈥?br> 鈥楾hat mixing process, called reassortment, is one of two ways pandemic viruses are created.鈥?Baxter admits sending live avian flu viruses to subcontractor 鈥揚eople familiar with biosecurity rules are dismayed by evidence that human H3N2 and avian H5N1 viruses somehow co-mingled [!] in the Orth-Donau facility. 27 Feb 2009 The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses. And an official of the World Health Organization鈥檚 European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International鈥檚 research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria. [Source: The Canadian Press]

Spectre of pandemic 26 Apr 2009 The new strain contains gene sequences from North American and Eurasian swine flus, North American bird flu and North American human flu, according to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Most of Mexico鈥檚 dead were young, healthy adults, and none was aged older than 60 or or younger than three, the World Health Organisation said. This has alarmed health officials鈥?Pandemic flus - like the 1918 Spanish flu and the 1957 and 1968 pandemics - often strike young, healthy people the hardest. Mexican officials promised a huge immunisation campaign in the capital this week. [The deadly vaccine program *ensures* a pandemic!]

CLG: Flu Kills The Torture Memos 鈥揑n a 鈥楬oly convenience, Batman!鈥?moment, a 鈥榰nique鈥?flu virus (one likely concocted in US Army labs) overtakes media coverage of revelations that the highest levels of the US government instructed the CIA (and private contractors) to torture terror suspects. By Lori Price 26 April 2009 Guess where the first swine flu outbreak occurred? That鈥檚 right, Fort Dix, New Jersey, in 1976. Thirteen soldiers died, leading the US government to force a questionable vaccine on the population 鈥?backed by a legal liability escape clause mandated by and for the pharma-terrorists. Next, people started dying not from the flu 鈥?but from the *vaccine.*"

I'm as wary and watchful of it as any other flu. I'm sensible but not crazy over it. Like any other flu, yes, it can be dangerous. And also like any other flu, many people end up getting better.

I'm keeping an eye on myself and my family and we are washing hands reasonably, but above and beyond that, we're staying calm.

A little bit worried. I'll be more worried when it spreads to all over the world, to every country. I didn't get SARS though when I lived in China at the time, so I'm not too worried about this virus either.

I am a bit concerned though. I'm glad I live in Finland because here we have taken all the safety precautions and are prepared for it. We have enough medicine and free health care. I just hope the spreading stops. In the mean time, I remain calm.

I'm just gonna try to keep up with the updates about it, so I know how bad it is.

I am not scared at all, I am healthy though, and wash hands etc a lot. now, but my friend ashliegh, is FREAKING out, and using so much hand sanitizer, I wanna puke... (well now, wasn't that ironic LOL)

no, not scared, and even if you did get it, I think the news people are blowing it wayyy out of praportion. it is a flu.=D

I'm alittle worried about it, i work around alot of people everyday and I have recently moved back in with my mother to take care of her, she has no immune system so if i get it..........she surely will. So i am trying to take extra precautions so I don't get sick or get the swine flu.

One of the kids in my children's school has type A flu, and we are awaiting the results of the swine flu test. Does anyone know the likelihood of it being swine flu? The school is open and the child is recovering well...so not that scared, but certainly concerned!

Yes, i am concerned but, i think the media has blown this way out of proportion. They are the ones scarring everyone to death!!
Just wash your hands a lot and do use a sanitizer when water is not available. Stay away from crowds etc.

im not. people are saying the flu is going to wipe out half the population, but thats all just bull to me. to prevent it you just need to have good hygene and i do. so im not worried of gettign it.

I'm afraid I don't want to die 6th grade @ Zundy are going to San Antonio and I want to go so bad we are going in May 14,2009 and I already have my stuff pack not my shirts though.

Until it spreads to where i live, no, not really. However if it did spread here, i think i probably would wear a mask or refrain from going out in public.

I was, but personally, living in Britain, I feel it's all just media hype.

However, if I was living in Mexico City right now, I think my opinion would be different.

I'm absolutely terrified.
I'm not religious and i cant help it i cant force myself to believe
im crying now as im so scared

So far, no I'm not scared or worried. I'm only going to get worried if it starts to spread rapidly and its killing alot of people.

i'm not sure i am "really afraid". i am definitely concerned. and i think anyone who knew any history of this type of thing would be too.

im not worried about it cause if it happens to me it does but i am watching other people im putting myself around

People die all the time of regular flu.. the only thing different from this one is that it has a name.

Many.

me yes i'm concerned
i go to mexico every once a month

I am really worried.

More chance you'll die from food poisoning. Not at all worried.

you have more chance getting hit by a car than getting this flu

in Egypt a lot of people are afraid but I am not

I'm not. It's just like any other flu.

I'm just concerned for the health of my 14 month old baby girl... It scares me

not me I only eat fruits :D

sort of

I'm not freaking out.

no, it's inevitable, i wish it would just hurry up, we're all gonna catch it, it's just a matter of time...
