How serious is this swine flu in mexico? Can you recover from it ?

I am a bit worried, I have just heard on national news it could potentially be a new epidemic. How can you prevent it? It is airborne?
If you get it can you recover? could it wipe out most of the earth's population?
Please, just scared

People should be worried about any possible pandemic disease... worry causes preparedness.

The one thing everyone needs to remember though, 1000 people known to be infected in Mexico... only 61 have died, which means over 800 survived thus far...

and of the handful that have gotten sick in America, ALL have survived.

The main concern is that it is not normally transmitted human to human... but in this case... there have been no contact with pigs in the infected humans, and the cases are not isolated to a small area. Some are in California, some were in Texas, the rest spread across Mexico.

so that can be worrisome.

However, healthcare and sanitation is much better in America than in most rural areas of Mexico, which is why likelyhood of survival is better.

The important way to survive a pandemic like this swine flu is sanitation. Wash your hands, take a bath every night to clean yourself off from the day's germs, carry hand sanitizer with you when in public. If you know someone who is ill, avoid them till they recover. it's not that they have the swine flu, but any illness can knock down your immunity, and you need immunity to fight infection.

if you feel sick, go to the doctor. While there is no vaccine at this time to "cure" this flu... there are 2 antibiotics that have proven in the American cases, to have cut the illness time in half for a rapid recovery.

The biggest dangers from these flus are not the flu themselves, it's the secondary infections such as upper respiratory infections and pneumonia. getting on an antibiotic when you get sick, will help prevent secondary infections that can be life threatening.

So basically... keep clean, wash your hands, take baths, change your undies every day, carry sanitizer with you when in public, avoid people who are currently sick, take your vitamins, and if you get sick, see your doctor right away.

I'd also avoid vacationing in Mexico right now.

PS... most scientists to agree, that the flu season is pretty much over, and that by summer this will hopefully die out... (Flu viruses are maintained in the low humidity of winter... in summer the viruses die off because they can not be maintained.)

That does not mean you won't see a reappearance in fall when flu season starts again... but by that time we'll hopefully had time to prepare a vaccination/antibiotic regiment that will help combat it.

Let's not jump into conclusion. It's good that we take precautions with this new flu but thinking it could wipe out most of the earth's population is silly. If we overreact and not calmly do something about it then yes, that could happen.
Urban areas and developed countries have a better chance of surviving. Rural areas and developing countries have a lesser chance of survival. For example, New Mexico has about 1000 cases of it and 60 people have died from it. It has spread to the U.S (about 8-10 cases) but no one has died.

Just watch the news... i havent heard anything of airborne so i dont think so. i know that they are talking about it being severe is because its not only one strain of virus its 4 strains of viruses all together in one DNA (not sure if i explained it right). there is no vaccine for it so basically no cure. 1,000 people in mexico are infected and 68 have died from it and there were a suspected 8 in the U.S. but they all recovered so it wasnt sure they had it or not.

Leave your tv on the news channel and your questions will be answered.

Dont worry and get to ahead of yourself. people can do things to contain the virus and people in mexico are already taking severe precautions. which is a good thing.

Here are some questions and answers about the illness:
Q. What is swine flu?
A. Swine flu is a respiratory illness in pigs caused by a virus. The swine flu virus routinely causes outbreaks in pigs but doesn't usually kill many of them.
Q. Can people get swine flu?
A. Swine flu viruses don't usually infect humans. There have been occasional cases, usually among people who've had direct contact with infected pigs, such as farm workers. "We've seen swine influenza in humans over the past several years, and in most cases, it's come from direct pig contact. This seems to be different," said Dr. Arnold Monto, a flu expert with the University of Michigan.
Q. Can it spread among humans?
A. There have been cases of the virus spreading from human to human, probably in the same way as seasonal flu, through coughing and sneezing by infected people.
Q. What are the symptoms of swine flu?
A. The symptoms are similar to those of regular flu 鈥?fever, cough, fatigue, lack of appetite.
Q. Is the same swine flu virus making people sick in Mexico and the U.S.?
A. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the Mexican virus samples match the U.S. virus. The virus is a mix of human virus, bird virus from North America and pig viruses from North America, Europe and Asia.
Q. Are there drugs to treat swine flu in humans?
A. There are four different drugs approved in the U.S. to treat the flu, but the new virus has shown resistance to the two oldest. The CDC recommends the use of the flu drugs Tamiflu and Relenza.
Q. Does a regular flu shot protect against swine flu?
A. The seasonal flu vaccine used in the U.S. this year won't likely provide protection against the latest swine flu virus. There is a swine flu vaccine for pigs but not for humans.
Q. Should residents of California or Texas do anything special?
A. The CDC recommends routine precautions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases: wash your hands often, cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze, avoid close contact with sick people. If you are sick, stay at home and limit contact with others.
Q. What about traveling to Mexico?
A. The CDC has not warned Americans against traveling to Mexico but advises that they be aware of the illnesses there and take precautions to protect against infections, like washing their hands.
Don't worry and goodluck!
FOR MORE INFORMATION AND A VIDEO GO TO:

A person from the world health organization said only 20 CONFIRMED deaths due to swine flu. The other 40 (out of the 60 being reporteD) have not been confirmed. Normal human flu season is still going, the other deaths could have been caused by that.

The 8 cases in the US the people have recovered.

Don't panic.

this one you can, but more are coming, each one we have had has been a little stronger each time, very few people want to believe why flu's are getting worse, the world population is over crowded, pollution. soon a unstop able one will come and it will be to late.

According to one BBC article which has interviews with folks from Mexico, it is being under-reported and death stands at 200+. I have blogged it here: http://www.cancuntravelog.com/44/flu-in-...

Did you not pay attention to the news?
If 60 people out of 1000 died, does it look like you can recover from it or not? Yes.
