Why is the swine flu such a big deal now?

As for now, few people have actually died. And exponential growth of the flu hasn't even occurred like many viruses go through.

I understand that it spreads easily but the death rate is less than 10% (3% or something, I think) so I don't understand why so many people are getting really worried. I think it's just media attention and the way it has been portrayed.

Most world media were unable to cover the flu during 1918, due to the 1st World War. Spain was one country that allowed coverage and people thought that is were the flu started. The 1918 began in the Spring of 1918 and there were a handful of death from it. It phased out as the summer approached and then it came around again in the Fall of 1918-Spring of 1919 and that is when it did it worst damage. So be lucky that we know of the flu now. You never know it may come back later this year.

Its a big deal because it spreading like a plan going all around the world...

It's not even more virulent than normal flu, and less than 10% of people get it die.

Basically, I have no idea.

it can spread so easily. even if you don't die it can harm you and it is horrible...

its not, people are just over hyping
