30 days after sexual contact, showing flu like symptoms, terrified it may be hiv? |
30 days ago I had sex with a girl, I wore a condom but stupidly only rolled it up 75%, not all the way on my penis. We finished with her taking off the condom & giving me oral. Today I woke up & I felt like I had the flu, I have excessive diarrhea, my neck lymphnodes are swollen, I feel neuaseated, I feel like there is a slight pressure in my throat when I swallow, I have a fever, & my lower back muscles are sore I am terrified that I may have HIV when I found out said symptoms occour 30 days after contracting the virus. I got tested a week ago but I'm still awaiting the results incredibly paranoid. What would the chances be of me contracting HIV in my sexual situation, & how accurate would my hiv test be? (They drew blood for the test) HOLY COW..i had almost the exact same problem. I went to get the HIV test that gives you the results in 20min i was soo paranoid. I went to my normal doc first to get diagnosed before i went to get the test, and she told me i had a virus (similar to the flu...but not exact). I didnt trust her because i didnt mention HIV. And behold...she was right. Trust me, went through your exact same trauma. It was the longest day of my life. No worries, the symptoms of HIV are very much like the symptoms of a LOT of things. HIV symptoms don't show that early usually, It can take YEARS to be detected. You have the flu, no need to freak out, next time use safer sex practices. Go to the doctor anyway because you will probably need medication Don't worry. The HIV test is highly accurate. What you're explaining or think you might be having is FULL BLOWN AIDS....but that is highly unlikely because it takes awhile to get to that stage. Please don't worry so much. Wait for your results in peace. If you are found to be HIV positive be aware that there are many people living with this status and there are many medications that can make you live a long long time. However, THIS IS NOT a free ticket for you to have unprotected careless casual sex. Always be protected by both you and your partner.....Don't beat yourself up...you will be okay just pray! Don't worry until you know what it is. I have been through nursing school and I also know that Herpes causes this on it's first outbreak. ALL of the symptoms you are saying. Is there a sore or an itchy spot? Unfortunatly, using a condom at all is not a sure fire way to keep from getting Herpes. An HIV test is very accurate, so you can rest assured the answer you get is right on... however, get retested in 6 months and then 6 months after that. Sometimes the HIV virus will not show up for awhile. Make sure you retest in 6 month increments for at least 2 years. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck to you, and next time, 100% that condom. There is nothing worth the risk. Acute HIV infection may be associated with symptoms resembling mononucleosis or the flu within 2 to 4 weeks of exposure. HIV seroconversion (converting from HIV negative to HIV positive) usually occurs within 3 months of exposure. Negative tests do not necessarily rule out HIV infection, because there is an interval (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of measurable anti-HIV antibodies. If a person is suspected of having acute or primary HIV infection, and of being in the "window period," a negative HIV ELISA and Western Blot will not rule out HIV infection. Additional testing for HIV viral load will need to be performed. The LA County Department of Public Health is giving free flu shots to LA County residents (including Van Nuys residents). There are public health clinics in Glendale, Pacoima and I think ...
