I have a diarrhea and a fever. Doctor diagnosed it as stomach flu. Could it be something else? |
It started 4 days ago with stomach pain and then yesterday I got a fever. My body temperature was 102.1 and later on it was supported by the worst diarrhea I've ever had. I went to an emergency room, they did blood and urine tests which came out fine, and a CT scan of my stomach to make sure its not appendicitis. It came out negative so the doctor said I'm having a stomach flu. From what I rear so far it's suppose to go away in 1-2 days, but it's already been 24 hours and it only seems that my diarrhea is getting worse and my body temperature is 100.1 right now. I have no other symptoms except yesterday I had a slight back pain, headache and muscle ache. Could it be anything else? Besides way too much information, I would say it could be food poisoning or a stomach flu! Hope you feel better! Sorry, but it really does sound like the flu. It could've been food poisoning originally as well, but the duration of your symptoms kind of rules that out (usually food poisoning is more like a 24 hour thing). Try to get as many fluids in you as you can, and ask your doctor if you can take any over-the-counter medications for the diarrhea (Kaopectate, for example). Tylenol should help with the fever. And once you start to feel better, ease back into eating with the "BRAT" diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, or toast). If your fever gets above 104, or your symptoms continue to worsen instead of improving over the next 24-48 hours, see your doctor again. Hang in there! The stomach flu really sucks! I'm a medical librarian. Do you always come to answers for a second opinion? At least you saw a doctor instead of coming here posting your question hoping to get diagnosed, but still, go with what your doctor said, it sounds like the right diagnosis and I'm sure he knows a lot more than many of us here. Stress Stress Stress.... it sounds like you have had a problem festering for years and the only way it can express itself is by letting its self out in anyway it can....we are all made of energy and energy has to move...if it finds the oppurtunity to find a way to move ..."it will" I am a holistic healer When they can't find anything else wrong they call it the flu. Sure, it could be many different things. ER doctors see you for a second, order critical organ tests and then get you out of the ER to make room for the next sick person. Not saying you were wrong to go to the ER, but it isn't the best place for diagnosing those symptoms. Everyone is different and the flu duration may last longer for you or there might be something else wrong. Who knows. Give it a couple more days and then call and see your doctor. |
