My child was just diagnosed with severe GERD?

He is 7 months old and was showing signs for months before he was diagnosed and recently just doesnt wanna drink his milk. Yesterday he was put on previcid and threw most of it up and didnt drink the other half.It took 4 hrs for me to give it to him and he didnt even finish it. I called the doctor this morning and he didnt seem to woried. I guess what im trying to say is should I be worried even if the doctors aren't?

The doctor actually wants me to force feed it to him with a syringe. My son has very bad gagging reflexes.

be carefull not to form any feeding or food issues that will stay with him for life. I'm not sure about the force feeding thing. I would definatly get a second opinion on that.

as a matter of fact get a second opinion from a specialist. Good luck

Hi Jillian

as you know I've been following all your posts and the good thing is that now you now what he has and can follow a medical treatment.

Medical treatment is not the only option for managing GERD symptoms. Changes in diet, nutrition, and routines can be used alone, or combined with a medical treatment, to gain relief from the pain associated with GERD.

The following lifestyle changes have been shown to have a positive effect on symptoms associated with GERD in some patients:

Losing weight
Quitting smoking
Wearing loose-fitting clothing
Eating smaller meals
Raising the head of the bed when sleeping
Waiting at least 3 hours before lying down after eating4
Avoiding certain foods and drinks,4,8 including:
Chocolate
Peppermint
Alcoholic drinks
Caffeinated beverages
Citrus drinks
Tomato-based foods
High fat and/or fried foods

Maybe you already know this, but is always good to keep reading about the condition your son has, you can always find new things, support groups online, etc. I hope that now he starts getting better and better.

xoxo
