Gerd?????? |
10 years ago I had afundoplication when I was 4 for severe acid reflux and missing valve. I am going to say that it is probable but may not be. I recommend staying away from pharmaceuticals because you will need larger doses overtime to subdue the pain and symptoms. Try using alternative medications, I have taken the liberty to elaborate below. Coffee isn't good for 14 y/o's or GERD. Certainly you may need surgery since you are not reponding to medical treatment Oh sweetie, you can't eat anything with a tomato base, no orange juice or other acidic foods or drinks. Too much acid will have you walking the floors in pain. It sounds like you might have some infection in there. You should call the doctor back and tell them you need to be seen right away. I take Nexium for Gerd and it's a wonder drug. If I miss a single dose I am walking the floor. If I take my dose I never feel a thing. Good luck and get to the doctor asap Also, you probably have a hiatal hernia that makes food stick in your throat. My gastroenterologist told me that it is very common and about half of all people have one. So you must eat very slowly and chew your food completely. Drinking too much water only makes the acid float up and into your esophagus and causes more reflux, so limit your water, no caffeine. You should drink milk, eat yogurt, eat soft foods..remember..no acidic foods for now. And also, I almost forgot, raise the head of your bed by placing two 2" blocks under the headboard. This will keep the acid from floating up into your esophagus while you are lying in bed. You should definitely cut the coffee. You probably just need to try a different PPI (proton pump inhibitor), like the Nexium suggested below, Protonix or Aciphex. You could also try taking your omeprazole twice daily. Often, reflux is worse at bedtime, especially when you lay down, so a bedtime dose could help. It sounds like you may also have some obstruction going on in your esophagus - you need to be sure to chew your food thoroughly and don't eat too quickly. Your MD will probably tell you all of this when you see him/her in 2 weeks. |
