Does anyone have GERD? or Acid Reflux?

How long did it take for your prescription to start to work??

Immediately. and it depends on the Rx they gave you.
Nexium is great, as is aciphex, prilosec, all very expensive though. I have a step above GERD. I have Barretts Disease of the Esophagus. as a result of not taking my medication.
plz. be careful with acid backing up the esophagus. It causes errosion..and pre-cancerous lesions as I have.

I DO!!! i was on nexium and it worked great just after 1 day, then they switched me to prevacid(because of insurance) wich didnt work to well so i went back to nexium and now it doesnt seem to be helping at all so i just quit taking it, but it should start working within a couple days if it doesnt contact your doctor, because sometimes GERD has the same affects of an ulcer.

If you are taking Nexium, it should help within a day or so. But there are things you can do to help it along.

Stick with blander food for a bit while the medication is taking hold. Eat smaller meals more often during the day to avoid getting over full. Don't eat less than 3 hours before going to bed and try not to drink anything closer to bedtime than that if you can help it.

Also, prop your upper body up a bit with pillows which will help physically discourage the reflux.

I fought GERD for a long time, but in the end, while the medication helped get me over the rough patches, changing my eating habits and, eventually, losing weight helped the most.
