10 week old with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)? |
Our pediatrician prescribed AXID for our son yesterday. Does anyone have experiance with this? If so, how long does it take before it starts to work? When I asked the pediatrician she said it takes a few days before we should notice a differance. However, he has had 2 doses so far (every 12 hours) and he is (finnally) calm this morning. Both of children had the reflux and I noticed with thin the first twenty four hours a huge difference in the way that they were feeling and how they ate. It was wonderful that they were finally getting to keep the food down and sleeping and just being alot happier, I only had to keep them on it until they were six months old and by that time they were both back to normal and no more special formula or medicine and it was great, hope everything works out for you and good luck. When I was an infant I was diagnosed with GERD as well. My younger cousin who is 5 now also was diagnosed with GERD as an infant. She was on AXID and it took a few days. It does with all GI medications - the drugs have to settle into your stomach enzymes, etc, to cause them to produce less acid. I'm almost 21 now and I have been on lots of upper GI drugs, usually within a week everything starts working and you'll experience significant relief. My cousin who is now 5 and was diagnosed at infancy currently doesn't complain or show any GERD symptoms, so AXID does work from what I have witnessed. My sister's pediatrician said it would take a while to take full effect, but that she might even see a difference in her daughter within 24 hours...she did. my son wasn't on that medication he was on zantac which did nothing and prevacid again...nothing!! After being on several different formulas like progestimil, enfamil a/r lipil and others along with adding rice and other cereals...the ONLY thing that helped him was Goodstart Soy....now he drinks regular milk NO problems! I am in NO WAY a doctor, I am just sharing my experience.....his reflux was horrible....he used to shoot it across the room out of his nose! I went against what my doctor said and did what I thought was right and what would help..keep in mind when I did this he was already 9 months old..he was projectile refluxing from birth. Now, at almost 4 years old its like it never happened :) my daughter was on many medications for this as well. i would have to agree with the mother about goodstart soy. that is the only thing that helped my daughter as well. |
