3 month old baby won't eat, has GERD and Delayed Gastric Emptying - PLEASE HELP...? |
She has had a hard time gaining weight. Born 7 lbs 12 oz. - Now at three months is 10 pounds. All of the sudden she only drinks 1 oz at each feeding (every 3-4 hours). She has had an ultrasound and upper GI. Does not have pyloric stenosis. I don't know what to do to get her to eat. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have added cereal to her bottles. Doctor recently put her on Reglan, but it makes her so tired. Anyone have any advice? We are desperate at this point. We are afraid she is going to start loosing weight fast. Thanks... She is on Similac Isomil Advance, which is a soy based formula and Gerber rice cereal. My daughter went through the same thing. She never had a problem eating, except when I put her on Similac Alimentum, she HATED the taste. To be honest it is pretty disgusting. If the formula she is on taste horrible that may be why she is not eating. I switched my daughter back to what she was on originally after the breast which is the Sam鈥檚 Club brand Member Mark and is doing great on it. I mix 1 tsp of barley cereal per 2 oz of formula. Putting your baby on cereal before 3 months is completely safe. I had my daughter on barley cereal when she was just over a month. It helps with reflux by adding consistency to the formula which in turns keeps it in the tummy and doesn't travel up. I had her on barley cereal because it is easier on the tummy. Rice cereal causes constipation, oatmeal causes gas, and barley causes loose stools. My daughter is on zantac which I don't like my 3 month old being on medication, I believe babies should not have to be on medication if at all possible. The other thing i did for her was take her to a chiropractor, yes I said chiropractor. Because I had such a long labor and my baby was lodged in the canal is cause her atlas vertebrae to become locked in a position where it was pinching the Vegas nerve which causing many problems including GERD and colic. Any other questions just let me know I would be happy to answer. Cereal? Did the doc say to do this? Seems like it would be harder to digest causing more problems. Trust your doc or take her to a new one. Good Luck! You could see another doctor and get another opinion, maybe there is someone else out there who has more experience to help find out what's going on. Then again it could be a short phase where she's not hungry and maybe her appetite will kick back in? I have the same problem with my 3 month old. She was 10.3 at birth and only 13.11 now. I have exausted myself doing research on what to do and where to turn next. She recently did a Barium swallow and I cried because there was nothing wrong. DONT GET ME WRONG I want my child to be healthy, but I wanted them to see the problem so they could fix it...but apparently only 20% of things show on that test. You know what my cousin had this problem with her son, his stomach wasn't digesting the milk correctly. Maybe it's the formula that the baby is on. You should get they baby to try the soy formula. He/she might be able to digest it better. you need a specialist. most doctors these days do not recommend the cereal in the bottles, i am not sure if yours did but my baby has acid reflux and my doctor said NOT to put rice cereal in the bottle, i think this makes it harder for babies to digest because they are not ready for that. |
