Can bad sharp chest pains and heart skipped beats be caused by gerd or heart burn?

Can bad sharp chest pains and heart skipped beats be caused by gerd or heart burn?

Ok GERD stands for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, which essentially is the cause of heartburn. Basically heartburn or GERD describes pain due to gastric (stomach) juices, which contain acid, passing back up into your oesophagus. It is a purely upper GI issue and can be a cause of chest pain. It wont cause skipped beats though. Feel your pulse: if you can predict when you will feel it consistently then it is regular. If your chest pain can be felt anywhere around your jaw ot your arms or if it is brought on by exercise then it probably isnt due to GERD, it is more likely to be angina. Sorry to go on but your age and general habits play a part in this, if you are over 45(ish) years of age and/or smoke/drink heavily you should probably get checked out. Again, if you are generally worried go to your GP. If it is GERD there are many treatments available, some medicinal such as PPIs (ie omeprazole) ,antacids, or some surgical interventions. If this is not the case, you would probably benefit fron an ECG. To summarise, your chest pains could be caused by a number of things including GERD but if you feel you are also experiencing cardiac problems or are generally worried I would advise a visit to your GP.
Hope it helped

Perhaps the pain, but definitely NOT the skipped beats. Especially worrisome if they are happening at the same time. Don't take chances. Get checked. Most likely just an occasional premature beat, but best to be sure. Cardiac pain is not usually described as "sharp". It is crushing, squeezing, pressure. Some folks can feel premature beats, but usually not as pain.
