Reflux/gerd? |
******I have a doc appointment this afternoon*********** yes he was diagnose with milk protein allergy by a docotor, since he was vomiting and having watery diarhea, and the diarhea stopped as sson as he switched to soy, and just to be sure, we tried milk formula again a few weeks ago and the diarhea came back, it stopped again as soon as he went to soy. also for the spitting up, I've tried everything, feeding him upright, propping him up, and he still spits up. My daughter had the same problem. I went through 7 weeks of her screaming in pain because our doctor had no answer except to put her on a medication called levsin and said she had colic. i switched doctors and they immediately switched her to soy. the doctor and other people in my family who have had children on soy have told me that soy can cause excessive spit up. my doctor recommended a tsp of rice cereal in every other bottle. it weighs the formula down so that she doesnt spit as much up. my daughter would eat and go down for a nap and wake up screaming in a huge puddle of spit up. she is still on soy and had minimal spit up at 6 months now. she didnt spit up on milk formula, but her stomach cramped badly. now that she is older our doctor gave us some liquid zantac, but i cant get her to take it because of the strong peppermint flavor. Id talk to your doctor about the spitting up and see what he recommends http://infantrefluxdisease.com/infant-re... sorry for your frustrastion i have the same ordeal with my 7 month old son.. we had to go to nutramigin by enfamil.. its a hypo allergenic formula.. nothing else worked and he is also on 6 ml of axid a day.. it took about a month at the beginning for his body to get use to the new formula and the medicine but its heaven sent now.. talk to your doctor maybe soy is to hard for him too. good luck Hopefully you were told by a professional that he can't digest milk protein before switching to soy....many people think their kids can't digest milk and try other things which make problems worse... my son had colic and acid reflux...the doc prescribed him "ranitidine"(a baby version of Zantac) and that stopped the spitting up... he needs to be upright for 30 minutes after meals, and smaller portions of milk work better than bigger meals. I know how you feel... My daughter is now 9 months and I think she had reflux, she was spiting up almost everything that went into her too, the docters switched her to the soy formula too, but that helped very little. She would only sleep laying down for about 5 minutes at a time. I started sitting her up while she was sleeping and it seemed to help because she started only waking up once during the night. I had her sleep upright till about 5 -6 months and then started progressivly getting her to lay down to sleep. She is now sleeping laying down and wakes up 1-3 times a night to eat but she goes right back to sleep. I used her swing at first for her to sleep in so she could sit upright and then moved her into this chair/rocker thing that my dad got for her... Hope this helps~ I hear you, it is exhausting. My daughter was on Reglan and Prevacid, which helped. I also had to be very careful to keep her head elevated for at least half an hour after she finished a bottle. I hope your doctor can be helpful to you and you can get some rest soon! |
