Anyone living with GERD? |
How do you cope...How do you deal with the diet change? Well... let's see. I have had this condition since grade school, believe it or not. I have learned over the years what foods to avoid. For me, fried foods and any meat on pizza is a bad thing. Spicy foods do OK as long as I am not in a "flare up" where my symptoms are bad. Everyone's body is different, though. Take your medications as prescribed, and don't over-eat at meals, small meals are best. Also, try to avoid caffeine, cigarettes and alcohol. (hard I know!) Finding out which foods bother you the most is a little trial and error. For example, I can eat tomato based products but my husband who also has GERD cannot. i have had gerds for about 3 years now... its not a easy thing to go through.. i really have to watch what i eat.. anything with acid in it kills my stomach.. the dr put me of previcid 30mg. i was on that for about a year and it felt like it wasnt working.. it up the dose to 30 mg. twice a day.. that so far has been working better , but i still cant eat alot of things... You just have to figure out what you can eat and what you cant... Mine still hurts from time to time.. good luck and i hope things get better... if it does please go back and see your dr... I take aciphex and I can't eat late in the night anymore. I use to be up all through the night. It can get pretty bad, but I take my medicine, and I never have a problem, just every now and then. |
