I am suffering from severe GERD(Gastro Oesophagal reflex desease). What Kind of food stuff should i not eat?

I am unable to identify which food stuff is making the problem worse.should i not take non veg?and about grape and oranges?potato?..so many doubts i have about diet habits..please help.....

Acid foods (Tomatoes)----so, chili, spg. sauce etc. will give you a Gerd attack. Pop (or sodas, as they are called some places). Coffee. Anything spicy. Most juice will do it. better to eat fresh fruit (some kinds) or dried fruit.
Stick close to vegetables as most don't cause a Gerd attack.

Anything that is acidic and fatty. No oranges, broccoli, califlower, beans, orange juice, etc. no chocolate, caffeine, tomatoes. Eat smaller more frequent meals. Also, stay sitting up for atleast 1/2 hour-1 hour after eating anything. After that, laying on your right side helps the digestion, so reflux if less likely to happen. (due to the opening from your stomach into your small intestine is on that side, and gravity will help it along faster.) You can also sleep with your head elavated.

First of all start taking Prilosec (Omeperazole) 20 mg once a day in the morning. After 4-6 weeks, your problems should have diminished greatly or even gone away. You should be able to eat and drink nearly anything your want. Unfortunately you will probably have to take Prilosec for the rest of your life.

Avoid acidic, and spicy foods, colas altogether.
But...the real cure to GERD is not the avoidence of certain food stuffs.....but basic changes in ur lifestyle. Eat 6hrs before you go to bed. Do not slouch on ur couch,(hey...that rhymes..: ) ) You need proper posture....to keep the esophagus from having an easy access.
And one usually doesnt end up with this for no reason. Do you have a hiatus hernia? If so it can be surgically treated to relieve u of ur symptoms. Or it could be a problem with ur lower esophageal shincter.
I suppose ur doc gave u something like ranitidine or omeprazole....that ought to keep the acidity down.

I used to work for an ENT Surgeon (Ear, Nose and Throat). He was always recommending avoiding fatty foods and spicy foods. Fruit and vegetables should be fine. And make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water a day - avoid fizzy drinks and too much tea and coffee.
