Hi! Being a sufferer of GERD too, I can really understand how suffering it is. It is true that GERD sufferers do give out bad breath as my husband has alerted me whenever he happens to smell it and then what I do is to use a good mouthspray (make from natural mint plants) and spray into my mouth to kill the bad breath. A good refresher mouthspray aroma will last longer in our mouth and keep us fresh for many hours. Aside from that, we must drink enough water and avoid eating the kind of food that will leave behind strong smell because when the acid refluxes, the bad smell will emit from our mouth and that is what we called "bad breath". Well....for serious sufferers, it is very important to consult a doctor and receive medication before any complications take place. Just before I end my message, please take a look at the link attached below. Hope it is informative and helpful. Wish you good health! Just a little sharing........ First let me say I feel your pain. I too suffer from GERD. It isn't fun and to the point...miserable at times.
A few foods to avoid would be: dairy, spicey and acidic like orange juice. Now you don't necessarily have to completely rule these out of your diet but try very hard to not eat them after about 7:30 at night. (or earlier if you go to bed at an early time like before 10p)
Keep you head elevated about two pillows thickness at night. This will help with the reflux.
As for the ENT and tonsils...seek second opinions when it comes to this area. Sure wish you lived close to me we have a TOP NOTCH ENT Doc. here! He's fantastic and believes in treatments first before surgery. Don't rush into surgery unless you are 100% ok with it and as I stated get a 2nd opinion...it's your health for heaven sakes.
Anyway, Good luck and I do hope and pray that this little advice has helped in some way.
Let me know if you need any additional information and I'll see what I can do.
God Bless.
Personal experience..sometimes that's all you need.
I also have GERD that would keep me awake at night and make me uncomfortable during the day. I took Aciphex which was a prescription medication. It worked very well, but my insurance company stopped paying for it. My pharmacist suggested I try Prilosec OTC -- because it has a similar "mode of action" in treating the acid reflux. You can get it at any drug store. I have been happy using that for the last 3 months and I have had no issues. Hope this Helps
