GERD Question? |
Are their any like special tricks to cure gerd. For example tilting your head back relifes a bloody nose. Or are their any special foods/drinks to cure it?? Avoid alcohol, smoking, chocolate, peppermint, tomatoes, onions. Try to eat smaller meals and don't eat an hour before bed. Good luck. no tricks that i know of except try avoinding foods with highg acidity, heavy sauces like spagheti sauce some good meds are: losec pantoloc stay away from tomato products, chocolate, soda (carbonation), fried foods. Use Tums a lot. Sleep on 2 or 3 pillows. Do NOT lie down after eating. Well, if you frequently are having GERD, there are a few things that you can do to reduce your symptoms. Don't eat less than 2 hours before going to sleep because having a full, distented stomach will increase the pressure and cause food to want to come out - back up through your esophagus/mouth! Also, sleeping on 2 pillows at night may be helpful because it also reduces the pressure on your esophagus and keeps food down in your stomach where it belongs. If your GERD is severe, completely elevating the head of your bed (i.e. with a piece of wood) may be a helpful long term solution. It has been speculated in historic times that peppermint (the real thing, not the artificial candy type) can reduce acid reflux. That is where the idea of serving dinner mints evolved from! Oh yea, smoking can also decrease the ability of your esphageal sphincter (the thing that keeps food in your stomach) from staying tightly closed and can increase symptoms of GERD. Hope this helps! I'm a nursing student! Try to avoid food like coffee, tea, chocolates and try to quit smoking. Eating in small frequent feedings will help a lot. Try not to over eat and skip meals. Your doctor would prescribe meds to help you if it does not work. |
