Is gerd/ gastro reflux/ acid reflux fatal. does acidity controlling pills cures it or simply? |
regulate/ releave the pain. Are test( WHICH ) to be done regularly. i Now this is required to be asked from a doc.still. ARE there any home made remedy for it Go see an Md and don't ask the advice of non professional strangers on the Internet. Really stupid. No one here is a Doctor. No one here can exam you, take a history and give you any tests. This is a serious medical issue. Go see a Gastrointerologist. Don't be stupid. It's your health. The bad thing about those diseases is that if you let it go long enough it can cause lesions on the esophagus, causing cancer. Which, I would say, can be fatal. Nexium heals erosions on the esophagus as well as prevents them. Other acid reducers, to the best of my knowledge, only prevent the acidity. Really, you can take over th counter meds, or drink alot of milk to alleviate the pain and burning but does it really work? No. You should get a prescription and get in under control otherwise it will control you. Acid reflux can be fatal but not in the way you'd think of. What happens is the stomach acids eat away at the bottom part of the esophagus (food tube) where it meets the stomach. Given time- sometimes decades- the acid causes the stomach lining and esophagus lineing to become cancer- hence, the start of stomach cancer. My entire family has a birth defect on my fathers side- we don't have the sphincter muscle that shuts off the stomach from the esophagus so we each have 4 ulcers from each position we lay on when we sleep. Using "Tums" or "Rolaids" I have been hospitalized 3 times with kidney stones- so don't use those ok? THANK YOU OH HOLY GOD ALMIGHTY FOR PRILOSEC AND PEPCID AC! in extreme cases it can be fatal..the acid rising from your stomach can burn the soft tissue lining of your esophagus, causing it to swell and inhibit breathing or accidently get sucked into your lungs causing scar tissue to develop...extreme cases recently have been linked to a bacteria known as h pylori that live in your gut It isn't fatal but it can cause a lot damage to your esophagus if it isn't gotten under control. 1. Don't eat within two hours of going to bed, and stay upright after you eat..no lounging on the couch after dinner...laying down allows the stomach acid to bubble back up into the esophagus. 2. Raise the head of your bed with a 2x4 piece of wood. 3. Try something over-the-counter for acid control first such as Tums or Rolaids...if this doesn't work get some Pepcid which you need to take it about 30 minutes before eating...or you can even take it regularly if you have reflux daily. You can take up to 40 mg of it a couple times a day if you need it that often...this works really well and doesn't cause liver damage which other PPIs such as Prilosec or Nexium can do. 4. Talk to your doctor...they may want to do an upper GI study to see what the damage is (scope down the throat...but painless). once you have it, you have it. i have it and you have to monitor it. if left unchecked it can develop into barrett's disease which is a predisposition to esophogeal cancer. don't fool yourself into home remedies to keep it in check. being under the care of a doctor is called for to maintain awareness of the situation. good luck! |
