I have Gerd and have tried several different pills but symtoms are still there. Suggestions??? My husband and I both have it. You'll need to have your doctor check for hiatal hernia. Sometimes you can make a hiatal hernia go away by losing weight if you're overweight, or sometimes you might need surgery. Have a scope done every 5 years to make sure the acid is not causing cancer. Follow dietary rules - no caffeine, nothing carbonated, small frequent meals. Good luck! MY DOC GAVE ME AN Rx BUT IT COSTS 150.00 A MONTH SO I JUST TAKE PEPCID A.C. AND TUMS WHEN NECESSARY..............NOTHING REALLY CURES IT try getting a 2nd opinion...you may have another problem other than stomach acid problems Have you used prescription medicines? Protonix is good. Over the counter there are Zantac, which works for some people, or Pepcid. If you look in the PDR it will give you the dosage, usually twice what the over the counter dose is. Need more Info...........Were the pills prescribed by a doctor??? Prilosec and Nexium are the best out there.......check with a doctor....I have acid reflux(gerd) and these two pills are great....Prilosec is wonderful.........but the fact my body made three times too much acid, the tip of my esophogus by 1/4 was burned off, plus damage on the inside...........So now I take Nexium which helps in healing......You can take 1 pill a day of Prilosec which is over the counter now it's 20mgs., and in a few hours you have relief......I needed more milligrams (good luck) I guess it depends on how much you can afford to spend. I take aciphex that my doctor prescribed. Fortunately I have health insurance. I did some research on my own and found that nexium is comparable to a prescription. I have also used other over the counter items like zantac and pepcid but don't get lasting relief Who made the diagnosis of GERD. If you have not had an esophagoscopy (an actual look with camera in your esophagus) you do not what is causing your symtoms. Many people with GERD symtoms have a condtion called Barrott's Esophagus which must be treated by a professional. 10 % of people with this condition develope esophageal cancer which is most dangerous types of malignancies. Diagnosed early, can prevent a fatal outcome. Believe me I know what I talking about. I am a physician. I have Gerd. I have Barrotts. I have had a yearly esophagoscopy and biospy for over 20 years. I do not smoke. I do not drink alcohol. I love life and i want to live Good luck. I hope you are being taken care of by a competant gastroenterologist. |
