I have gerd,hoarness? |
I have gerd, hoarness? GERD is gastroesophageal reflux disease which essentially means that acid from your stomach is backing up your esophagus and getting into your throat. Stomach acid is very, very powerful and can destroy tissues in your throat. The hoarseness is most likely due to tissue irritation at the level of your larynx at the back of your throat. If you have seen your doctor and are taking medication for the GERD, that's great....your hoarseness most likely will improve or even disappear. If you haven't seen a doctor, get to one quickly. Untreated GERD can lead to erosive gastritis, upper gastrointestinal bleeding or even esophageal cancer & believe me, if you have ever seen someone after having an esophagectomy, you will take better care of your stomach! Good luck! I also have GERD, acid reflux.....I developed the hoarseness and went to my ENT to get it checked out. He said my vocal cords had some irritation on them .....so he told me to take my refulx medicine and also my sinus medicine (sinus drainage is also not good for the vocal cords) and then come back in 2 weeks. One side had cleared some but due to my moving he wanted to go on and scrape my vocal cords just to check them out. It was all normal, no cancer. Cause? my reflux and constant sinus drainage...also said if smoked only smoke no more than 8 cigarettes in a day and I would be ok.......thats been 6 years ago and am fine. personal experience |
