My friends's GERD is becoming from bad to worse. What can he do for relief? |
He takes one Nexium pill a day but it just doesn't seem to be working anymore. The type of symptoms he's experiencing is trouble swallowing, lower back pain, burning sensation, difficulty breathing etc. What he do for some relief? Is there any home remedies that work? At this point he's ready to try anything. He's been under a lot of stress lately. He needs to see his doctor and have an endoscopy performed, because with the difficulty breathing and swallowing, he could have developed a polyp or a tumor, and early treatment could save his life. Ruling that out, then it sounds like his dosage probably needs to be increased. lots and lots of good hard exercise helps. I think you may want to see a Dr.... but fiber therapy always helped me get back on track when my symptoms flared up. citracel or metamucil at least 2x a day DO NOT under any circumstances eat late at night and stay away from the spaghetti sauces. DO NOT lay down after a meal, try to eat light and sit in a reclining position if he must go to sleep. Is he overweight... he must change his diet. Stay away from greasy foods that are high in salt and drink plenty of water. He might have esophageal erosion. your friend should see a dr. There are a lot of food products he should stay away from. Spicy foods for one. Mint gum, tomato based sauces, and of course smoking. But what I found to help the most (and my Doc actually gave me this piece of advice), is to not eat anything within three hours of lying down. Whether at night or for a nap, since lying horizontally causes the acid to back up into the esophagus. Try that, and you'll see it's a life saver. GERD suffering experience. |
