If you have GERD and occasional high blood pressure, is it safe to take baking soda when you have a tummy ache

The reason I ask is baking soda has a lot of sodium in it. By taking a teaspoon of baking soda with 4 oz of water it helps eliminate stomach ache. Has anyone with occasional high blood pressure ever taken baking soda and didn't have any problems? What do you think you have to do differently?

Try putting peppermint essential oil topically over the stomach area. This usually settles things down within 15 seconds. If your skin is sensitive, you can dilute the essential oil with natural cooking oil or unscented cream.

You can also purchase organic peppermint candy at your health food store. These work well, also. Source(s): I am an alternative and complimentary care practitioner.
You need to be taking prevacid or some thing to help the reflux.
Unchecked gerd can do damage to the esophagus. The prevacid or one of it's kind also stops the stomach pain. Taking baking soda is for baking and if you have high b/p you don't need the
sodium. Take good care of yourself!!
I agree with Micah prevacid should eliminate you're GERD. As for using baking soda the acid in it could make you're GERD act up especially when you lie down. But if you're not having any problems with the baking soda and you're GERD taking the B.Soda should be ok as long as you are not doing it more than once a week or so because it really doesn't help the high b/p. I would definantly talk to the doctor about prevacid or a reflux agent asap.

Good Luck!
Be very careful with the baking soda. If taking to much it could blow up your stomach. It has been known to do that. So Try to use something else. That is the truth. It has blown up stomachs from taking baking soda.
Why not eat a TUMS? It has calcium carbonate - no sodium.

If you have it often ask your doctor about Prilosec OTC. Take it every day or every other day and you will never have GERD.
The salt content of the baking soda is not recommended for people who have high blood pressure. Go with something calcium based to be safe, Tums, Maalox, etc.
