Does anyone suffer from "upright GERD"? If so, what treatment relieves your symptoms the most? Don't have it but try eating smaller meals several times a day, and keep a food diary. Don't lie down after you eat. I have it and as soon as i quit drinking coffee my problems went away. I suffer from GERD, I don't know what the Upright part is. I take Prilosec OTC, it works wonders. You really should check with your doctor though, to see what they reccomend. It is my understanding that Prilosec is the same thind as Prevacid, whic is a prescriptiuon. Prevacid, cost about $120 for a 30 day supply- Prilosec, $9 for a two week supply. You should still visit your doctor regularly when you are taking Prilosec though. I doesn't seem to matter what I eat, I still have problems. I can go all day without eating and still get the heartburn. I was showing symptoms of GERD so I went to the doctor and they gave me a prescription for Aciphex which helped out. After I ran out of the prescription I took some Prilosec OTC for some minor pain and I actually haven't had any problems since. I was never diagnosed with GERD because after I took the Prilosec OTC I felt fine and didn't go to the doctor or anything. I do know that staying away from spicy foods helps. I hope this helps in some way. Good luck! http://www.aciphex.com/ http://www.prilosecotc.com/ GERD is usually caused by greasy or highly acidic foods. The best thing you can do preventively (besides medication) is pay attention to what you eat and at what times of the day. A food diary is a great way to keep track of the relation between the time, food, and GERD symptoms you experience. I would suggest keeping one for 5-7 days and then you should be able to correlate what changes you need to make in your diet. Unfortunately, there is no remedy for GERD other than watching what you eat and taking medication. Gerd is not always painful, as I didn't know off had that I had it until seeing and ENT doctor and he discovered it upon my examine. Some sytoms of gerd, would be bad breath, rough hoarsy throat and sometimes a mild cough do to aggrevation from the stomach acids going into your throat. I agree with some of the answers. You need to watch what you are ingesting, drink plenty of clear liquids (water). Try to limit your amounts of caffine and if you smoke you may want to give that up as well. Along with a good diet, exercise and if you have a little extra weight and loose some of that you symtoms can and will subside, in some cases you will need to be on medication till you can get control of it. However, I am not a doctor here and I am pretty sure the majority of the persons here are not as well. I would seek out a health professional before making any conclusions, there could be more underlying factors that you are not aware of! |
