Does anyone else have GERD? i just found out i have it and learning to deal with it.?

am taking protonic, new med. its sucks sometimes

I have GERD and it definitely sucks, but if you can find a good gastro-intestinal specialist doctor, they can alleviate the symptoms and perhaps even reverse the disease. There are other things you can do... eat more bland foods, sleep with the head of your bed raised, stop smoking, lose weight, especially around your mid-section, watch your alcohol intake... I've had it for years and it actually has been tolerable. Good luck and keep a positive attitude.

watch what you eat. find your trigger foods. and do not eat before going to bed. I know spicy and greasy food are a no no.
yep......acid reflux disease, where the acids come up into your throat and sometimes you feel like it's on fire! and your stomach hurts sometimes..I was on Protonix too, but now I am on Nexium (the purple pill lol) and it's great!
Once you have been on the Protonix for a week or so it repairs the damage done on the esophagus (throat) and it slows down the proton pumper ( what produces the stomach acids) so that you don't get so much that it comes up into the throat. it calms it down.
You will be able to eat ANYTHING YOU WANT once it begins to go to work on you and you won't have that problem, unfortunately you will have the disease for the rest of your life, so set in for a monthly supply every month but give it time to work , just don't miss your daily dosage because you will know it!
one more thing I would like to share with you, NEVER TAKE ANY PAIN MEDICATION CALLED" TORADOL" when you have acid reflux because it will cause bleeding ulcers.I was given Toradol by a dentist and this was before I knew I had acid reflux disease and if you have black stools STOP and get to a DR. because it means your bleeding inside and the blood has gone through the digestive system.(I know that sounds gross but it may save your life).it threw me in the hospital with bleeding ulcers in my stomach I had to have 5 units of blood and have my ulcers carterized.(this was diagnosed by my Gastrointerologist that Toradol was the cause.
if you cannot afford the Protonix get Prilosec OTC from the drug store..walmart it works just as good! Good Luck!
