Pepcid AC vs. Prilosec -- for GERD?

I must take Prilosec for various GI problems (including GERD) for the rest of my life. When I had an allergic reaction to penicillin in the Spring, I was given Pepcid AC to combat part of the reaction.
I was thinking of alternating days with these two drugs to give me the proton pump inhibitor action, but also the H2 blocker action since I have such bad allergies anyway.
Anyone else done this or those with a medical background think this is a good idea?

Yes I have gerd, it's painful, I'm taking prilosec for it, it works pretty good. The switching back and forth ask your doctor, OK??
