What is the best medicine for GERD and heartburn? |
I have heart burn for more than 6 years, if I take medicine it reliefs a bit and if i dont take medicine again it starts burning and food coming to my throat. Prilosec is the drug that my husband takes with good results for acid reflux disease. i would get really bad heart burn and go to the emergency room sometimes. i went to see a specialist because i thought i had gred. the doctor sent a scope down my throat and looked into my stomach and i didn't have any signs of gerd or tearing or any thing. i had instead some type of nerve disorder. the doctor said this is very common and most of his patient have this. some of the symptoms are head aches, trouble sleeping, fatigue(not every day even). before i went and seen him it got to the point where anything i ate gave me heartburn. he gave me medicine and it has seemed to work. so you might want to go see a specialist. don't take tums it only makes it worse. nexium is good and it also heals the damage done by the stomach acid. I have Gerd also and i take the over the counter prilosect. One thing you need to do is look at your diet .Make sure you are eating Gerd friendly foods. good luck! http://www.aboutgerd.org/ You have reflux and I have it too my doctor prescribed me an antacid pill but you have to take it everyday. I take mine twice a day and I am fine. Nothing over the counter has ever worked as good as my doctor's prescription. But you could try Malox. Good Luck i take nexium its really expensive. but prilosec is otc and it is also really good for it. |
