My dr. today told me i have gerd--yikes! im thin & fit!! anyway he said no snacks before bed {....read on}?



what's safe to eat a couple hours before bed? i'm starving because i don't eat big meals but i don't want to make my throat hurt any more. could i drink a beer if i don't go to bed for a few hours? what can i eat?! i'm HUNGRY!

You can eat a small snack of carbohydrates, but don't lay down for at least an hour. Stay away from beverages of any kind.

That's just for tonight. Find an eating plan that will keep you from being hungry right before you go to bed. I am giving you a link to my question because some of the answers may benefit you as well.

heavy carbs don't taste so bad when they start back up again - bread, plain crackers, etc. It's easier on the esophagus.

Beer wouldn't be a good idea, you might want to stick with water.
YOU ARE BETTER OFF EATING SEVERAL SMALL MEALS YOU CAN GET SOME MEDICATION. NO BEER.DID YOU GO TO THE DOC SO YOU HAD SOMEONE TO IGNORE.? EAT LIGHT THE ACID ALSO EATS AWAY AT YOUR THROAT SO BE GOOD. IT TAKES TIME TO HEAL. TRY FAT FREE PUDDING ASK DR.FOR CHEAT SNACKS.
Avoid anything spicy. Beer is not the best beverage to drink before bedtime, unless you drink it at least 3 hours before bedtime. Sleep with your head up on a couple of pillows at least. Put a couple of books or bricks under the head of your bed to make an incline. You could try some cold cereal, or something very light. Nothing greasy, spicy, or hot, like peppers. I wouldn't recommend pizza, spaghetti or tomato products. Keep it bland and eat well before bedtime. You think you are starving at night, but usually it is an emotional habit more than an actual hunger. Food is comforting and is a pleasant way to end a stressful day. The key is in learning to read your body's true signals. Are you really eating because of hunger, or is it because of boredom or stress or depression, or other emotions. Do a google search for GERD and you will come up with a lot of websites with recommendations. Good luck.
Try raising the head of your bed a few inches. You can do this by putting a couple of bricks or books or blocks of wood under the bed posts. Gravity is on your side! Also, you can probably get away with eating a couple of hours before bedtime. I'm sure he gave you a script, so give it a couple of days and I bet you'll be able to eat about whatever you'd like.
