What kinda diet i have to maintain for "Esophagus Reflux" or "GERD"?

lately, i learnt that im suffering from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), what diet i have to follow?

The diet is not the issue. GERD is caused by a weak sphincter muscle where food goes into the stomach. The acid can cause changes in the esophagus that may lead to cancer, so you should try to get a handle on it.

Avoid eating before lying down or going to bed. If you eat food with high acid content (tomatoes or tomato sauce, for example, or lemons or lemonade), it will make the acid damage worse, but not by a lot.

Drinking soda (anything that fizzes when you open it, even beer) will make the GERD worse, so aim for water or flavored water or Crystal Light or similar preparations, especially before lying down.

Raise the head of your mattress (put a pillow under the top end underneath the mattress or buy or make a wedge to put there) so the acid will not get up too far.

Take something like Pepcid Complete or Prilosec OTC, but understand that they diminish the acid output of cells in the stomach. which will grow more cells to make up the difference, so if you stop, the acid problem will be worse. It's better to take the Pepcid Complete only when you need it, rather than regularly.

If you have not had an examination of your esophagus for possible precancerous conditions, you should have one as soon as possible. Source(s): Close to 20 years' experience with reflux.

See this site, which I do not completely agree with but is the best, clearest explanation of GERD and its treatments:

your doctor should have told you that when they told you that you had a problem. but you need to stay away from fatty food, greasy foods, etc..
i have gerd as well. you need to first figure out what foods bother you. also cut back on food with high acidity (oranges, tomato sauce). also caffine can cause upset as well. the best thing to do is cut back on certain foods until you figure out what works best with your body and what does not
my mum suffered from this, its gone now, but what she always did without fail was to drink water before and after eating, which soothes, and stay away from spicy dishes hun, and chew properly and dont gulp as it takes in more air and can cuse your reflux to be worse.sos not much help, just a wee bit!!!
Avoid eating spicy food containing chilli and pepper. Eat small regular meals. Say no to alcholic beverages. Special drugs like Alginate containg antacids help GERD.
weight loss in general is known to help.

avoid mint, licorice (sp?), tobacco, caffeine, chocolate. These are known to relax the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

spicy food in general, for most, increases reflux symptoms.

Avoid eating within 2-4 hrs of bed, to allow the stomach to "reset" itself before you are horizontal. On that note, dramatically tipping the bed (15 degrees or so) has been shown to help.
