What the cure for GERD?

I HAVE THAT FOR 8 YEARS MY DOC SAID YOU GOT TO TAKE PROLISEC FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE I SAY BULLSHIT NO WAY

I NEED NATURAL CURE

GERD is caused by the increase of Acid build up in your stomach, but also due to the Lower Esophageal Sphincter relaxing which allows the gastric acids to come up your esophagus.

treatment with Prilosec, or nexium is to help decrease acid production...
another way is having the vegus nerves around your stomach removed. This decreases the signals to the cells to produce acid...not alot of docs are doing this these days.

There are ways of decreasing GERD...
do not eat or drink anything 2-3 before bed.
stay away from acidic & spicy foods
eat smaller meals ( more often) to allow digestion quicker.

The other main concern about GERD is that if it is serious enough it leads to something called "Barrett Esophagus" which will lead to Andenocarcinoma of the esophagus. It is diagnosed by Endoscopy. May not be a bad idea becuase it is cureable if caught early enough.
Have you been taking Prilosec for 8 years with no relief from your GERD? If so, you may need to change medications.

GERD occurs when your esophageal sphincter does not close properly and stomach acids are forced into your esophagus. Erosive esophagitis may result when your esophagus becomes inflamed; then a precancerous condition called Barrett's Esophagus may occur; then esophageal cancer may occur. You do not have to be having pain for this to be happening.

Although I do not like to endorse a particular medication, Protonix, acipHex, and Nexium helped my GERD. If you still have GERD symptoms 3 months after taking your medication, the medication is not working.

Not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating a proper diet can also help reduce GERD. Foods that can aggravate GERD are found at http://www.thegerdlife.com/lifestyle/ger...

For GERD that does not respond to treatment, there are surgical options. Sometimes a person's esophageal sphincter, for whatever reason, is too weak to function propertly. Read about them at http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/guid...

Before you give up, you may want to switch medications and make lifestyle changes. Good luck!
I am in healthcare education.
there is nothing natural to "cure" it. I have been on nexium for 4 years now and was also told the same.
