What are the cons and pros of genetic testing?

I have to pick a side (for or against genetic testing), but I don't really see any bad things about it. And there's only one good thing that i can think of.

Can anyone help me?
=/

thank you if you answer!!!!

Well, from the privacy / conspiracy aspect, one could suggest that once the DNA file on you has been done, then you loose all rights to any privacy. through DNA checks, anyone with enough money (govt.) could tell where you have been, what you have been doing, and if you really ate that fruit at lunch or gave it away.
Why is this important? If you want insurance for health or other things, you could be singled out or forced to pay higher premiums for things you have no control over.
What if someone did research that says most mass murderers have a certain genotype charachteristic that you share. Could they decide to lock you up as a preventive measure, before you have the chance to join your murdering cohorts?

That ought to get you started!

Pros:
-learn about any predispositions to certain hereditary diseases that could be passed on to future generations
-learn about any predispositions to certain hereditary diseases that you could have in order for you to take precautions to prevent/delay them

Cons:
-Ignorance is bliss?

Genetic testing, coupled with reproductive technologies (like IVF and pre-implant genetic testing), has also led to various levels of "designer" babies. So far it's been limited to hereditary/genetic diseases and choosing girls or boys. But as our knowledge develops, it should be possible to select for a lot of different genetically based traits (physical features, mental capability...etc).

Being able to test for genes also leads to the theoretical scenarios of genetic discrimination (which has been explored quite well in science fiction).

for genetic testing:
-people can find new and/or better cures for diseases
-creates jobs
-provides for better technology
-gives hope to the incurable

against:
-morals -does this go against gods will?
-if genetic testing goes wrong will there be a runaway frankenstien?
-genetic discrimination in the future?
