I have to get married with my 1st cousin, can the blood & genetic test show of any problem having child .?

i am in love with my first cousin, she loves me . but only thing that worry me is have child in the future. because i have heard that some people having defective childern as a result of close family marriages.
my question is this that is there any tests or any counsiling to make it clear of any danger in the future. like blood tests or any genetic examination.
if some one can answer this question i appreciate that so much. thanks.

No there is no test to predict how will be your kid; the only way to know is to test the baby BUT it would be too late.

By the way in many jusrisdictions is illegal to have sex with a first degree relative (the charge would be incest) and the marriage is also forbiden, illegal and void if done; so Are you sure you can get married without going to jail?

There are no tests to predict the outcome of your children and they are at an increased risk of genetic abnormalities. How much increased risk?....maybe twice that of the "normal" population. There is lots of information on the web for you to peruse. I have always wondered though, if you marry your cousin then later divorce her, is she still your cousin?

HI,
I'm not sure of the effects if any.....I suppose you'd have to ask your doctor and both have some kind of blood work done together to see if everything would be all right to bring a child into the world. I understand your concern for the mental and physical health of your unborn child to be in the future. Good luck.

That is just sick...Why would you want to marry your first cousin...get out in the world and find another mate! Your child would be the laughing stock of the family and the community...Why put a child through that...Think about what you are wanting to do...It is just sick...What does your parents thank about it...or do they even know!

Yes, it is correct that the child of a blood relative couple generally born with defects. so it is better to consult experts in this field before finalizing any decision .Think twice, both of you merits and demerits of your marriage .

I'm not sure about testing for the chances maybe you should ask your doctor or a professional.
However it is a dangerous situation especially if your parents are brothers. The child can be psychically or mentally disableds

yeah it can cause problems .............
here the Th-factor comes into play ......
yeah there r clear cut tests available.....go and consult a doctor.......

I'm not going to be mean like some people. I think people are entitled to whomever their heart choose. You just can't help who you fall inlove with. That's part of life. Anywayz, here's what i read somewhere:
Genetic counseling is a great idea to put your risks in context. Everyone has the risk of having children with problems, but because cousins share the same close ancestors, it is slightly more likely that they might share a disease gene. The backgroud risk that every couple faces of having children with birth defects is about 2-3%. First cousins in general may have an additional 2-3% risk on top of this(likely). Genetic couseling will help define this for you personally based on your family hisotry and ethnic background.
There are no special tests for cousin couples. The same tests a genetic counselor would discuss with any couple thinking of having children based on family history and ethnicity is what you should expect. You can find a genetic couselor in your area through the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
In other words, if there is a family history of genetic birth defects/disorders somwhere in the past, then the chance of having children with the same disorder increases. If not, then the children form from this union should be ok, given the normal rate of occurance for any birth defect. By the way, my cousin is married to her cousin on her dad's side and they have 4 1 boy and 3 girls...and the youngest one is so bright!!!!She's so smart.
Well, that's my 00.02. Thanks!

No. Being a first cousin will not have any effects on having a child, with the exception of the fact that ridicule might become a factor.
